EDGE Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Kobuchizawa Village, Yamanashi Prefecture; CEO: Shunpei Shimada, hereinafter 'EDGE') will grand open the multifunctional facility 'kadoya (Kadoya)' in Kitatsuru District, Kobuchizawa Village, Yamanashi Prefecture, on Saturday, July 18, 2026.

The Story of 'kadoya'

'kadoya' is a community hub created by revitalizing the former inn 'Kadoya,' once beloved by local villagers. Reimagined as a multifunctional space, it features a café, micro-hotel, coin laundry, and kids' space. The café opened on Monday, June 15, 2026, and has already begun welcoming villagers, tourists, and visitors from neighboring areas. After the grand opening, accommodation services will commence, marking the full-scale operation of the entire facility.

The facility is designed around the concept of a 'village lobby,' aiming to create a natural meeting place where residents, visitors, and stakeholders can interact, thereby fostering a sustained relational population connected to Kobuchizawa Village.

The Revitalized Former Inn 'Kadoya' Begins Full Operations as the Village's 'Lobby'

Kobuchizawa Village is nestled in the mountains at the headwaters of the Tama River in eastern Yamanashi Prefecture. At its center once stood 'Kadoya,' an inn cherished as a welcoming place for locals and travelers alike. 'kadoya' revives this former inn as a multifunctional facility, adding modern roles essential to today’s Kobuchizawa. By integrating functions such as café, lodging, coin laundry, and kids' space, it aims to become a daily gathering place not only for tourists but also for villagers, residents of nearby areas, and those interested in the region.

For EDGE, 'kadoya' marks the third community base established in Kobuchizawa. Building on the concept developed through 'NIPPONIA Kobuchizawa: The Village of Origins'—treating the entire village as one inn—EDGE will expand this vision into a more accessible space for casual engagement with the village.

A Gateway to Staying in Kobuchizawa with Accommodation Facilities

After the grand opening, 'kadoya' will begin accepting overnight guests as a micro-hotel. The facility has seven guest rooms in total, accommodating up to 16 guests, designed for various use cases including solo travelers, friends, and families.

'kadoya' does not promote stays confined within the facility. Guests are encouraged to enjoy their morning at the café, explore the village, soak in hot springs, and visit local restaurants and activities. Through such immersive experiences across Kobuchizawa, visitors can engage with local people and lifestyles. The bedding features products from 'Sinso,' a bedding manufacturer based in Fujikyu City. By incorporating craftsmanship from Fujikyu, a textile-producing region at the foot of Mount Fuji, 'kadoya' aims to offer a comfortable stay rooted in Yamanashi’s local culture, even during moments of rest.

The café, curated by ONIBUS COFFEE, serves specialty coffee alongside light meals and desserts. It serves as a meeting point for various visitors—those stopping by before exploring the village, guests enjoying their morning, and locals or nearby residents using it in their daily lives. The café also offers desserts developed with the chef from 'Satologue' and meal menus in collaboration with 'Genryu Pan Kobo,' aiming to create a space where visitors can experience the charm of Kobuchizawa through coffee and food.

The workspace, available alongside café and lodging services, allows guests to spend their time working, reading, or holding meetings while feeling the atmosphere of Kobuchizawa.

In a separate building adjacent to the micro-hotel, a coin laundry is installed for daily use not only by guests but also by residents of the village and nearby areas.

This is one of the distinctive features of 'kadoya'—open both during travel and daily life.

At the back of the multipurpose space, a kids' area is set up for parents and children to enjoy together.

By providing a space where adults can enjoy coffee while children play safely, 'kadoya' aims to be a welcoming spot that both villagers and visitors can drop into casually.

Messages from Those Who Co-Created 'kadoya'

'kadoya' was created together with multiple partners who value expressions rooted in local communities and lifestyles. Through the integration of expertise—space design that inherits the memory of an old building, design that conveys the village’s atmosphere, coffee as an entry point to daily life, and lodging experiences incorporating Yamanashi’s craftsmanship—the former inn 'Kadoya' has been reborn as a new community hub.

● From Tadafumi Azuno, Creator of 'kadoya' Furnishings

(Co-Representative, ReBuilding Center JAPAN)

We rescue old materials from the site, transform them into furniture, and return them to the site. Though simple in concept, the on-site coordination is far more complex than imagined. This project could only be realized with a strong vision and deep commitment. I believe this space will evoke nostalgia for those who knew the old Kadoya. I fully support it!!

● From Atsushi Sakaoo, Coffee Curator for 'kadoya'

(Representative, ONIBUS COFFEE)

I believe this is a wonderful project that respects local culture while creating new value. I look forward to Kobuchizawa’s charm being shared with many through 'kadoya.' I wholeheartedly support the team behind NIPPONIA Kobuchizawa.

● From Makoto Tsuchiya, Design Director for 'kadoya'

(Editor-in-Chief, BEEK)

I am thrilled that a new gathering place is being created in Kobuchizawa. As the term 'place culture' suggests, I believe the people, natural environment, history, and culture of a region are deeply interconnected. I hope to support and cheer on the new 'kadoya' as it becomes one of Kobuchizawa’s unique cultural features.

● From Takuma Yonebayashi, Bedding Provider for 'kadoya'

(Representative Director, Yonebayashi Leasing (sinso))

Congratulations on the grand opening of 'kadoya.'

Through repeated discussions, I sensed the deep passion behind this project, especially in the careful selection of linen colors.

I am honored to have contributed, even in a small way, to place-making through the simple yet important act of 'sleeping.'

I sincerely hope this space becomes a comfortable and beloved place for all who gather here, for years to come.

● From Shunya Taniguchi, kadoya Project Manager (Director, EDGE Co., Ltd.)

When I first moved to Kobuchizawa, I still remember attending a fire brigade banquet at Kadoya. I am deeply proud to see this building, once loved by both villagers and travelers, renovated and welcoming guests once again. We have prepared a warm space that reflects village life, delicious coffee and desserts, and simple yet comfortable guest rooms. Please come visit when we open. The entire village will welcome you with open arms.
