The aroma of monjayaki and lively atmosphere spill out from the wide-open entrance.
KISSUI GROUP Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Tsukishima, Tokyo; Representative Director: Fumitoshi Kano) will open "Tsukishima Monja Tamatoya Kokura" in the Kokura Chuo Shopping Street in Kokura, Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture on July 17, 2026, at 5:00 PM.
"Tsukishima Monja Tamatoya" has its main store in the birthplace of monjayaki, Tokyo's Tsukishima, and is a popular restaurant with long lines daily at Tokyo Station and in the Tenjin One Fukuoka Building.
Following the recent first expansion into the Kyushu region with "Tamatoya Tenjin," this is already the second store in Fukuoka, opening in the heart of Kitakyushu City, Kokura, within the Kokura Chuo Shopping Street.

The interior is inspired by "Uomachi Gintengai," known as Japan's first public road arcade, featuring an arcade-style steel frame in Tamatoya's colors. Furthermore, a giant lantern, modeled after the "Tobata Gion Yamagasa" lantern floats of Kitakyushu's representative festival, commands attention from the entrance up to the two-story atrium.
This establishment, where Tokyo's monjayaki culture merges with the historic townscape and festival culture of Kokura and Kitakyushu, offers an experience that can be enjoyed not just for the food but for the space itself.
The cuisine makes abundant use of fresh seafood sourced from the fish wholesaler that has been the representative's family business since 1871 in the Toyosu Market. The homemade broth, simmered with a unique blend of seafood, chicken stock, and aromatic vegetables, is exquisite. You can enjoy monjayaki that maximizes the appeal of its ingredients.
The arcade-style steel frame entrance, inspired by the "Uomachi Gintengai," Japan's first public road arcade, and the giant lantern in the two-story atrium, inspired by the Yamagasa floats of the "Tobata Gion Yamagasa," are iconic features.
The signature "Mentaiko Mochi Monja" is a visually stunning dish that uses an entire large piece of mentaiko, directly delivered from the founder's family business, a Toyosu fish wholesaler. The umami of the homemade broth and the rich flavor of mentaiko combine to make this a representative popular menu item of "Tsukishima Monja Tamatoya."
All monjayaki is expertly cooked by professional chefs right in front of you on the teppan grill, so even first-time customers can enjoy it with peace of mind.
The most popular is "Mentaiko Mochi Monja." We recommend adding cheese topping, as cheese pairs excellently with mentaiko and mochi.
In addition, we offer seasonal seafood and delicacies carefully selected at the Toyosu Market, grilled fish meticulously prepared in our kitchen, and teppan dishes cooked before your eyes.
"Grilled Whole Squid (Liver Soy Sauce)" is a delicacy made by grilling fresh squid, which can also be eaten as sashimi, with rich liver and butter soy sauce.
