Background of the Donation
Levela's CEO, Yasuki Komai, spent his early childhood at Awakuni Jikeien. The experience of being raised by the facility has become the foundation of his current business and life philosophy. Motivated by a strong desire to give back to the place that nurtured him and to support children striving in the same environment today, he has decided to make this donation.
Use of Donation Funds
The donation will be used as part of Awakuni Jikeien's "Facility Enhancement and Life Enrichment" support project, allocated as follows:
Facility Renovation and Equipment Upgrade: 7 million yen
- Preparation fund for future facility rebuilding - Small-scale unit-based living arrangements (unitization) - Advanced equipment upgrades (ICT, earthquake resistance, etc.)
Children's Experiential and Event Activities: 3 million yen
- USJ field trip (extracurricular learning and experiential activities) - Prefectural pool activities and summer day trips - Community exchange events (festival hosted by the facility) - New event initiatives for local children
The goal is to improve children's living environments while expanding opportunities for social experiences and emotional education.
Comment from CEO Yasuki Komai
I spent my early childhood at Awakuni Jikeien. While growing up in a care facility away from one's parents is often viewed negatively, my experience was entirely different. I was surrounded by warm, loving staff and teachers, and many 'siblings,' creating a deeply nurturing environment. Seeing a bronze statue in the facility courtyard, I once thought, 'Someday, I want to create a place that supports children just like this.' That moment became the foundation of who I am today.
After visiting the facility for the first time in 20 years and spending time with former caregivers and the children living there now, I became certain: my success and influence in society can become a source of hope for these children. I want to continue demonstrating firsthand that 'no matter your circumstances, hard work can open doors.' If this donation can help expand the possibilities for even one child, there is no greater joy. I am committed to continuing this effort indefinitely.
Comment from President Tomoyoshi Yamaguchi, Awakuni Jikeien
We are deeply grateful for this generous donation. Mr. Komai is one of the individuals who once lived at our facility and has since grown into a successful adult. For our staff, it is an immense joy and honor that someone who grew up here is now giving back to the children at our facility. The precious funds will be used for facility unitization and renovation, as well as experiential programs for children. To the children, Mr. Komai represents irreplaceable hope—the belief that 'if I work hard, I can become like him too.'
About Awakuni Jikeien
Located in Tokushima City, Tokushima Prefecture, Awakuni Jikeien is a children's care facility. Its origins date back to 1894 (Meiji 27), when children who lost their families during the Sino-Japanese and Russo-Japanese wars were raised in temples. For over 130 years, it has supported children's growth and independence. Following the enactment of the Child Welfare Act in 1948 (Showa 23), it became a formal children's care facility. Today, children facing difficulties in family-based upbringing live under the care of professional staff, including caregivers and counselors. In recent years, in line with national policy, the facility has been advancing small-scale, family-like living units (unitization). Guided by the philosophy that 'each child will change when treated with care,' Awakuni Jikeien continues to support children in growing up safely and confidently toward independent lives.
