Talk Session Overview: "Why Now, Municipalities x Startups?"

Date: Monday, June 29, 2026 (Held after the partnership agreement signing ceremony)

Speakers: Hidenori Sakao, Mayor of Kyogoku Town / Satoshi Kanaya, Founder and Co-CEO of LX DESIGN Inc.

Theme: "Why Now, Municipalities x Startups?"

"There is learning that cannot reach children through administrative means alone. That's why municipalities partner with startups."

Following the signing of the partnership agreement, a talk session was held between Mayor Sakao and LX DESIGN Representative Kanaya (hereinafter referred to as Kanaya). The discussion, themed "Why do municipalities partner with startups now?", focused on the future of education with an eye toward the region's future.

Mayor Sakao stated, "There are limits to the learning and experiences that municipalities can provide to children." He emphasized the significance of partnering with startups that possess diverse expertise and networks, especially in rural areas where educational opportunities can easily differ from urban areas due to population size and regional characteristics. He also added, "We don't want children to decide their future dreams right away, but rather to increase their options first." He spoke about the importance of creating opportunities within the region for children to meet various adults, not just public servants and company employees, but also entrepreneurs, researchers, artisans, and creators.

In response, Kanaya said, "Educational challenges cannot be solved by schools or administrative bodies alone. That is precisely why it is meaningful for municipalities and startups to bring together their respective strengths and co-create the future of the region." "Fukugyo Sensei®︎," which operates nationwide, has approximately 3,000 diverse professionals registered, and working adults active in a wide range of fields such as IT, space development, research, healthcare, and art are involved with schools.

Furthermore, he stated, "What 'Fukugyo Sensei®︎' delivers is not just the lessons themselves, but encounters with diverse role models, showing them that 'there are lives like this' and 'there are ways of working like this.'" He shared his own recent experiences of continuing to learn by venturing into unknown territories such as dance and art, not just in education. "What children need is not to find a single 'answer' from the start, but to encounter 'options' for designing a life that is true to themselves. We believe that increasing these options within the region is the value that municipalities and startups can co-create," he said.

Through their conversation, both parties shared the recognition that education is no longer solely the role of schools, but that we have entered an era where regions, companies, and municipalities must co-create by bringing their respective strengths together. This occasion reaffirmed the desire to aim for the realization of "TEAM School for the Entire Community" by leveraging the strengths of schools, municipalities, companies, and regions, and fostering encounters that broaden the potential of each child, starting with this partnership agreement. We will continue to spread this "best of both worlds" education from the region, combining learning that can be fostered precisely because it is in the region with encounters with diverse adults that cannot be met solely within the region.

About "Fukugyo Sensei®︎"

This is an external human resource utilization service that allows schools to request lessons from diverse private sector professionals who wish to be involved in education. It enables easy utilization of the knowledge and networks of private sector professionals in areas that teachers often struggle to cover, such as career education, inquiry-based learning/comprehensive studies, programming, global education, IT education, entrepreneurship education, and financial education. It aims for "curricula open to society" where students deepen their learning while connecting with society. (https://fukugyo-sensei.net/)
