Rokujuan
Rokujuan is a traditional Japanese café housed in a historic residence designated as a nationally registered tangible cultural property, offering guests a space to experience Japanese culture through all five senses.
Inside the preserved residence—once home to a renowned Nihonga painter—guests can enjoy a peaceful, relaxed atmosphere reminiscent of Kyoto, complete with views of a traditional Japanese garden.
For those interested, we offer complimentary guided tours of the premises, introducing the building’s history and highlights as we escort guests to their seats.
The main garden, designed to evoke the Arashiyama and Hozu River landscapes, features vibrant green maple leaves shimmering under the summer sun. Enjoy a refreshing moment in Kyoto as you gaze upon this cool, serene garden.
Signature Sweet: Hana-Warabi
Rokujuan’s signature offering is 'Hana-Warabi,' a warabi mochi dessert with edible flowers delicately encased inside.
The translucent mochi, with flowers seemingly blooming within, creates a visually stunning treat that many guests cherish as a memorable part of their Kyoto journey.
Beyond its beauty, we take pride in the delicate sweetness and chewy texture of each handcrafted piece.
Served with our house-made black sugar syrup, known for its refined sweetness and deep richness.
Paired with fragrant kinako (roasted soybean flour) made from domestically grown black soybeans, guests can enjoy variations in flavor according to their preference.
A refreshing escape in the heat of summer in Kyoto. Savor the visually refreshing 'Hana-Warabi' while enjoying views of the historic residence and Japanese garden. Adorable in appearance and light enough for a break during your Kyoto sightseeing—this is the perfect Japanese sweet for summer.
