Cocoo will launch a meal subsidy system utilizing the expanded tax-exempt framework for meal subsidies starting April 2026. This initiative aims to improve employees' real income and enhance welfare benefits, with plans to expand its use as a proprietary welfare platform in the future.

Introducing a New Welfare System Aimed at Improving Employees' Real Income

Cocoo has traditionally provided employees with a monthly meal subsidy of 5,000 yen. However, since cash allowances are taxable, income tax and other deductions were applied, meaning employees did not receive the full amount provided by the company. This presented a challenge.

Furthermore, the General Affairs Department had identified the following as important themes:

Improving benefits and real take-home pay for younger employees

Enhancing welfare benefits to improve employee satisfaction

Designing a system that can be used fairly across all company locations nationwide

Against this backdrop, Cocoo considered introducing a meal subsidy system that could be operated tax-exempt, leading to the adoption of miive.

Fair Use Nationwide Was the Deciding Factor for Adoption

Cocoo has locations across the country and emphasized the importance of designing a system where there would be no disparity in welfare benefits based on work location. While establishing company cafeterias was difficult, miive can be used at Visa merchants, allowing all employees nationwide to use it fairly, regardless of their region or location.

The existing meal allowance of 5,000 yen in cash will continue to be paid. In addition to this, a new point-based meal subsidy system has been launched.
