Ryokan Homeikan, with its origins in the Hongo boarding house founded in 1898, consists of three buildings: the "Main Building," a registered tangible cultural property converted into a ryokan after the war; the "Taimachi Annex," a former private residence converted into a ryokan; and the "Morikawa Annex," built as a group accommodation ryokan. Having survived the Great Kanto Earthquake and the Tokyo air raids, it has long conveyed the history of the Hongo ryokan district.

The talk event will feature Mr. Naofumi Hosomi, Representative Director of the Hongo Architecture Design Institute, who is involved in the Homeikan revitalization project from an architectural and design perspective, and Mr. Taisuke Okubo, Representative Director of Narrative Co., Ltd., which develops old house revitalization and community development projects nationwide and is leading the planning, design, and operation of this project. They will discuss "The 'Future' of Homeikan," exploring how Homeikan, which is scheduled for renovation to maintain and utilize the building, can be utilized as a space open to the community while preserving its value as a cultural property.

In anticipation of the renovations, a "Homeikan Photo Contest" was held this spring, inviting photos related to Homeikan. With the winners now decided, an awards ceremony will be held to express gratitude to all applicants and those who have visited Homeikan in the past. A photo exhibition showcasing all submitted photos will also be held at the venue. Visitors can view not only the award-winning works but also Homeikan as captured through the perspectives of each applicant.
