PAY ROUTE Inc. (Headquarters: Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture, Representative Director: Ryo Tagawa) has commenced a demonstration deployment of nursing care support utilizing the "ROUTEPAY Remote Control" from June 10, 2026.
In this demonstration, in collaboration with "L-CUB" (Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture), a nursing care facility operated by NJI Inc. and represented by Hiroyuki Hashimoto, who also serves as a director of the Japan Nursing Care Business Federation, the effectiveness of elderly monitoring and communication support with family members will be verified using the TV phone application "HOTLINE TV+"® provided through the ROUTEPAY Remote Control and smart TVs.
What is ROUTEPAY Remote Control?
The ROUTEPAY Remote Control is a communication and life support device that connects users to various services such as TV phone calls, information reception, service utilization, and payments, by leveraging the user's existing TV and remote control.
A key feature is that even elderly individuals who are hesitant about operating smartphones or computers can easily use services by utilizing the familiar TV and remote control they use daily.
Furthermore, by utilizing PAY ROUTE's proprietary authentication technology "RC-Auth," highly secure payments are realized without the need for ID or password entry. This allows for payment completion solely on the TV screen, while mitigating the risks of phishing scams and unauthorized use.
It also includes a pop-up function that automatically displays disaster information, local information, and smartphone incoming calls on the TV screen. This supports information acquisition during disasters and connection with the community, while also enabling online consultations and access to various services.
Additionally, by linking with the TV phone application "HOTLINE TV+"®, it enables communication with family members living apart, online monitoring, and large-screen TV phone calls. It can be utilized to reduce feelings of loneliness in the elderly and to support communication and health in nursing care settings.
About This Demonstration
In this demonstration, the ROUTEPAY Remote Control and HOTLINE TV+® will be installed at a total of 5 locations: 4 elderly individuals living at home and 1 nursing care facility.
By utilizing smart TV compatible models and Chromecast depending on the TV environment, the system can be introduced while leveraging existing televisions.
Through the television, we will verify the effectiveness of a new model that supports the peace of mind and connection of the elderly by providing support for monitoring, conversations with family living apart, and health promotion.
Background of Demonstration Deployment
Amidst an aging population, nursing care sites are facing numerous challenges, including:
Continuous communication with elderly individuals living alone or alone during the day
Early detection of falls and changes in physical condition
Increased burden of visiting services
Maintaining service quality amidst labor shortages
Feelings of loneliness experienced by the elderly due to living apart from family
PAY ROUTE is addressing these challenges by focusing on a communication platform centered around televisions, which are easy for elderly individuals who find smartphone operation difficult to use. The ROUTEPAY Remote Control and HOTLINE TV+® allow users to see each other's expressions and conditions through the TV, proposing them as a new means of monitoring and family communication.
Furthermore, by leveraging the feature of "being able to communicate even when apart," beyond the challenge of elderly users' operational literacy, we aim to solve issues faced by nursing care sites such as labor shortages, visiting burdens, and maintaining service quality.
Main Use Cases in Demonstration Deployment
In this demonstration, operations will commence focusing on the following uses, depending on the degree of care and support required by the elderly:
1. Online Monitoring Using Television
Observe the condition of elderly individuals living apart by seeing their faces through the TV. It becomes easier to notice changes in expression or condition that are difficult to discern over the phone.
2. Communication Support with Family
Converse with family members living apart through the TV. It is expected to be easy to use for elderly individuals who find smartphone operation difficult.
3. Health Maintenance and Care Prevention
We are considering initiatives that lead to care prevention, such as frailty prevention and building healthy habits through exercise programs and light physical activity utilizing the TV screen.
Regarding the demonstration deployment, users living alone or apart from their families have expressed expectations for future use, such as:
"I'm looking forward to being able to see my daughter and grandchildren's faces and talk to them through the TV."
"Being able to actually see the other person's face makes me feel closer to my family even when we're apart."
Staff at nursing care facilities have also reported comments such as, "Our users are very excited to be able to talk to their families while seeing their faces, and many showed happy expressions during the explanation."
Furthermore, there are expectations that "Increased opportunities for family members living apart to connect daily will lead to reduced loneliness and improved peace of mind for users," and "Being able to see users' expressions and conditions on video will make it easier to notice small changes, leading to support for safer independent living." Expectations are growing for this as a new communication method in nursing care settings.
Future Outlook
PAY ROUTE will deepen its collaboration with the Japan Nursing Care Business Federation and expand its deployment to nursing care providers and others, primarily focusing on online monitoring, health checks, and exercise/care prevention programs.
In the future, we plan to consider deployment for safety confirmation, online consultations, recreation, and connection with local communities, and will continuously verify its effectiveness as a "new nursing care support model through television."
We will also verify its effectiveness from the perspective of nursing care DX, such as reducing the burden of visits in nursing care settings and improving operational efficiency through online communication.
