PlayS Receives Industry-First 'Phase-Free' Certification - Everyday Underwear Supports Women's Hygiene in Shelters -
PlayS Inc. (Minato-ku, Tokyo) announced that its 'PlayS' absorption underwear received 'Phase-Free' certification from the Phase-Free Association on June 2, 2026. According to the association, this is the first certification in the absorption underwear category.
### The 'Phase-Free' Concept The concept promotes products and services that provide value regardless of whether it is 'everyday life' or 'emergency life' (disasters). The certification system is operated by the Phase-Free Association based on five principles: persistence, daily utility, intuition, inspiration, and popularity.
### The 'Phase-Free' Features of PlayS [Everyday] Features quick-drying, sweat-wicking materials and antibacterial/deodorizing functions trusted by over 120 top athletes. It manages menstruation, discharge, and light incontinence, available in sizes covering over 90% of Japanese women.
[Emergency] Can be washed repeatedly during water outages using only about 200ml of water and oxygen-based bleach in a zip-lock bag. Quick-drying allows for rapid re-wear, while antibacterial features control odor in shelters. It replaces disposables and generates no trash.
### Development Background The PlayS absorption underwear was inspired by the volunteer experience of director Daisuke Sakaue, who witnessed the struggles of disaster victims during the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake while in high school. Awareness of hygiene product distribution difficulties in shelters during the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake further drove this certification effort.
For hygiene maintenance under water-restricted conditions, testing using zip-lock bags and oxygen-based bleach confirmed effective washing with approximately 200ml of water, proving its efficacy for life in disaster shelters.
