PROCAN Inc. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Kazuaki Wakamura), which operates "Procas Keibi," is a labor management system specialized for the security industry that has won No. 1 in the "Overall Satisfaction Ranking" and "Interest/Engagement Ranking" in a survey by "Keibi NEXT," a media outlet specializing in the security industry.

"Procas Keibi" recently conducted a survey targeting 253 active security guards nationwide to understand the reality of heatstroke prevention measures at security sites.

The survey results showed that 50.2% of respondents had experienced or nearly experienced heatstroke, an improvement of 25.3 percentage points from 75.5% in the previous year's survey. On the other hand, approximately 60% felt that "the heat itself" was a challenge, and issues related to the site environment also became apparent. Furthermore, about 70% responded that security companies that thoroughly implement heatstroke prevention measures are "attractive," suggesting that efforts in safety measures may also influence security guards' choice of workplace.

Background of the Survey

In recent years, with extreme summer heat becoming the norm, heatstroke prevention measures are a critical issue for security guards who work outdoors for long hours. In June 2025, the Industrial Safety and Health Act was revised, obligating employers to establish systems and formulate/disseminate procedures for work that poses a risk of heatstroke under certain conditions. In the security industry, various measures are being promoted, such as the introduction of fan-equipped workwear, ensuring break times, and recommending hydration and salt intake.

However, there is insufficient understanding of the challenges faced by security guards actually working on-site, and whether companies' measures align with the needs of the field.

Therefore, Procas Keibi conducted a survey targeting active security guards currently working in the security industry to understand the reality of heatstroke prevention measures and the challenges they face on-site.

Survey Results Overview

1. Heatstroke Experience/Near-Miss Experience Improved by 25.3 points from Previous Year

Security Guards' Heatstroke Experience

In this survey, 50.2% of active security guards had experienced heatstroke or nearly experienced heatstroke, an improvement of 25.3 percentage points from 75.5% in the previous year's survey.

On the other hand, as of 2026, about 1 in 2 active security guards has experienced heatstroke or a near-miss, indicating that the issue has not been resolved. It is considered important to continue heatstroke prevention measures and work on improving the on-site environment.

2. Heatstroke Experience Improved, but Over 60% Face Challenges with "The Heat Itself"; On-Site Heat Load Actually Increased

"Difficulties" at Summer Security Sites

While heatstroke experience/near-miss experience improved by 25.3 percentage points from the previous year, the burden of heat felt on-site remains significant. The most common difficulty at summer sites was "the heat itself" at 61.7%, an increase of 25.8 percentage points from 35.9% in the previous year's survey. Additionally, "long working hours" increased from 32.8% to 38.3%.

On the other hand, items such as "securing beverages," "lack of rest areas," and "insufficient break times" remained at the same level as the previous year or showed slight improvement. These results suggest that while basic heatstroke prevention measures such as hydration and ensuring breaks have penetrated to some extent, the heat load experienced by security guards themselves may be increasing due to factors such as the normalization of extreme heat in recent years.

Furthermore, this year, as new questions, the following ranked high:

Heat and discomfort from helmets and protective gear: 45.1%

Breathability of security uniforms (uniforms): 43.9%

Burden due to sudden staff shortages or understaffing at sites: 40.3%

In addition to measures like hydration and ensuring breaks, it seems necessary to also address issues related to equipment, uniforms, and working conditions.

3. Heatstroke Prevention Measures Show Signs of Penetration; Over Half Implement "Distribution of Salt Tablets" and "Reminders for Hydration"

Heatstroke Prevention Measures Implemented by Security Companies

The following were the top heatstroke prevention measures implemented by companies:

Reminders for hydration: 54.5%

Distribution of salt tablets, etc.: 54.2%

Ensuring regular break times: 42.3%

Provision of fan-equipped workwear: 39.9%

Compared to the previous year's survey, "distribution of salt tablets, etc." increased by 14.5 points from 39.7% to 54.2%, and "provision of fan-equipped workwear" increased by 6.3 points from 33.6% to 39.9%, indicating a spread of heatstroke prevention measures by companies. The penetration of such measures may be a contributing factor to the improvement in the heatstroke experience rate.

4. Changes in Desired Goods to Be Provided; Shift from "Cooling Goods" to "Equipment to Reduce Heat"

Heatstroke Prevention Goods Desired to Be Provided at Summer Security Sites

When asked about heatstroke prevention goods they wished to be provided, the top items were:

Sports drinks: 47.4%

Fan-equipped workwear: 46.2%

Cooling innerwear: 43.5%

In the previous year's survey, the demand was mainly for goods that could easily cool the body, such as "cooling sprays" (45.0%), "cooling sheets" (39.7%), and "cool neck rings" (38.2%).

This year, however, there is growing interest in equipment that can continuously reduce heat during working hours, such as fan-equipped workwear and cooling innerwear.

Furthermore, in the previous question, issues such as "heat and discomfort from helmets and protective gear" and "breathability of uniforms" were raised, suggesting that the measures sought by security guards are expanding from those that provide temporary cooling to equipment that reduces the heat itself.

5. About 70% Find Companies Thorough in Heatstroke Prevention "Attractive"; Safety Measures Impact Recruitment and Retention

Companies Thorough in Heatstroke Prevention Measures are Attractive

When asked how they felt about security companies actively engaged in heatstroke prevention measures, 70.4% responded with "feel very attractive" (34.4%) or "feel somewhat attractive" (36.0%).

In recent years, securing human resources has been a challenge for the security industry as a whole, and it appears that heatstroke prevention measures are not only a matter of safety management but also an element that affects recruitment and retention.

While the current survey showed an improvement in the heatstroke experience rate, it also revealed that challenges related to heat, such as "the heat itself," "heat from helmets/protective gear," and "uniform breathability," still remain on-site.

Therefore, in the future, implementing heatstroke prevention measures in compliance with laws, as well as working on equipment and environmental improvements that meet the needs of the field, may lead to a workplace that attracts and retains employees.
