Metaverse Yokosuka EDUCATION 2026 Announced! Learn VR and 3D Modeling This Summer!

Since October 2023, Yokosuka City has been promoting the 'Metaverse Yokosuka' project, utilizing the metaverse to promote the city's charm and tourism.

One of its related initiatives, 'Metaverse Yokosuka EDUCATION,' is an educational program designed to help citizens acquire digital content creation skills and become active, influential creators.

Following last year's success, a summer intensive course titled 'VR Creators Camp' will once again be offered for middle and high school students.

The course will feature akimin, a 3D modeler active in the VR community, who will guide participants through practical training on using the 3DCG creation software 'Blender.'

VR headsets will also be provided at the venue, offering participants a hands-on experience with the metaverse and VR technology.

1. Target Participants

Middle and high school students (aged 13 and above) residing in or attending school in Yokosuka City.

* Programs for university students, vocational school students, and adults are currently undecided. Updates will be announced once details are confirmed.

The organization aims to create global launchpads for youth to discover programming ('Kakawari'), deepen their skills ('Tankyuu'), and thrive professionally ('Katsuyaku'). It collaborates with local governments, universities, and high schools to nurture talent.

Since 2019, it has operated the 'Yokosuka Programming “Dream” Academy' to cultivate young programmers.

In April 2023, it opened 'YASUULAB (Yasuura Lab),' an IT platform and exchange facility in Yasuura Town, where graduates of the 'Dream Academy' can apply their acquired skills.

* Capacity is limited to approximately 20 participants (minimum of 5 required for the program to proceed). Applications may be declined if oversubscribed.

* The program may be canceled or modified if the minimum number of participants is not met.

* Applicants under 18 must have parental consent.

* Previous participants may apply, but priority will be given to first-time applicants if demand exceeds capacity.

6. About Metaverse Yokosuka

Launched in October 2023, 'Metaverse Yokosuka' is a city-led initiative using the metaverse to promote Yokosuka’s attractions and tourism.

Currently, two worlds are operated on the metaverse platform VRChat.

Combined, these worlds have surpassed 240,000 total visitors.

Additionally, 3D data of local items such as the 'Sukajan' jacket are offered free of charge via BOOTH and the official website, and are widely used by the community.

In particular, the 3D Sukajan data has achieved over 140,000 downloads, receiving widespread acclaim.
