Entrance of Aburaya Ryokan

Aburaya Ryokan (Representative: Mitsuo Numata), a traditional inn located in Furumichi, Akiruno City, Tokyo, has fully renovated its official website in July 2026 and launched a new promotional video available for viewing within the premises.

Alongside this, the inn has completed its exterior and interior renovation in March 2025 and introduced a new 'Online Gallery' that traces the transformation of Furumichi's townscape from its founding to the present day.

This initiative marks the first phase of commemorative projects leading up to the inn's 115th anniversary in 2027, celebrating 114 years since its founding in Meiji 45 (1912) as the only surviving inn in the Furumichi area.

Furumichi's Only Surviving 114-Year-Old Inn

Aburaya Ryokan was established in Meiji 45 (1912).

Rooted in Furumichi, a historic post town in Akiruno City, Tokyo, it has welcomed travelers visiting the Akikawa Valley for over 114 years.

As the only surviving inn in the Furumichi district, it is cherished by locals as a cultural and historical landmark preserving the community's memories.

"When Shibuya was still a village, Furumichi was already a town"—this saying reflects Furumichi's prosperity as a distribution hub since the Edo period. Aburaya Ryokan has grown alongside the town's history.

Three Key Renovation Highlights

- Exterior and Interior Renovation (Completed March 2025)

The exterior and interior have been redesigned with a monochrome theme of black and white. While preserving the inn's traditional charm, the space has been transformed into a modern and stylish environment.

'Online Gallery' — Archiving the Inn's Memories

As part of this renovation, Aburaya Ryokan has launched a new 'Online Gallery'.

Through historical photos from its founding era and past exteriors, visitors can trace how the post town of Furumichi has evolved over time.

This initiative aims to publicly archive and preserve the town's collective memory through the lens of a single inn, creating an open archive for both visitors and local residents.

A Popular Filming Location for Television Programs

Aburaya Ryokan has supported filming for multiple TV programs, including Yomiuri TV's 'Yakusoku: The 16th Year's Truth' (starring Anna Nakamura and Yoko Yuki), NHK's 'Tsurube no Kazoku ni Kanpai', and TBS's drama 'MONSTERS' (starring Shingo Katori and Tomohisa Yamashita).

Its historic ambiance continues to be selected as a filming location for visual productions.

Future Plans Toward the 115th Anniversary

This renovation marks the first phase of a series of commemorative projects leading up to the 115th anniversary in 2027.

- [Phase 2 / Summer] On-Site Gallery Opening — Display of 114 Years of Photo Panels

In conjunction with the 21st 'Yoruichi' event (scheduled for August 29, 2026), the inn will debut photo panels chronicling 114 years of Furumichi and Aburaya Ryokan. These will be displayed exclusively within the premises for about one month following Yoruichi, accessible only to guests and facility users, including behind-the-scenes photos from TV appearances.

※ Yoruichi is an annual summer tradition in Furumichi, attracting around 30,000 visitors each year.

※ Not open to the general public

- [Phase 3 / Autumn–Winter] Special Banquet Course Featuring 'Akikawa Beef' from Akiruno

In preparation for year-end and New Year's party seasons, the inn plans to launch a special banquet course featuring 'Akikawa Beef', a premium local brand from Akiruno City.

Message from Representative Mitsuo Numata

Furumichi is a town with deep historical roots. We hope more people will come to love it, visit for shopping, and stay overnight.

With this renovation, we've refreshed both the exterior and interior to create a more comfortable environment, and compiled 114 years of memories into photos and videos.

I am deeply reminded that the history of Aburaya Ryokan is also the history of everyone who has supported and connected with our town.

We would be delighted if visitors could enjoy the photos at the renovated inn on a Yoruichi night.
