Watanabe Pipe Co., Ltd., a specialized trading company for infrastructure and housing materials and an agricultural plant manufacturer, announced the establishment of the 'Watanabe Pipe Sports Scholarship' on June 1, 2026, targeting third-year university students involved in sports clubs and circles. This scholarship aims to support students who are serious about sports in balancing their athletic activities with job hunting, while creating opportunities for them to apply the skills cultivated through sports in society. Watanabe Pipe has been supporting the development of competitive and student sports through partnerships with organizations such as the University Sports Association (UNIVAS) and the Japan Lacrosse Association. Through these initiatives, the company recognizes the importance of student athletes balancing their athletic pursuits with future career development. However, many third-year students face anxiety and economic or time burdens as their athletic and job-hunting periods overlap. Against this backdrop, the scholarship was created to provide an environment where student athletes can pursue both activities with peace of mind. Key features include a 500,000 yen grant per person to reduce economic burdens, and the creation of opportunities to utilize sports-honed skills through information sessions and networking. The program is 10 students, with no restrictions on major, grades, or income. Applications are accepted via the 'Gaxi' platform from June 1 to July 17, 2026. President Keisuke Watanabe commented, 'Based on my own experience in judo, I believe sports have the power to help people grow. I want to support an environment where students serious about sports can approach job hunting with confidence.'
