NPO Beaufa (Location: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Shuji Tonoki) will hold its first experience-based program, "Beaufa-Lab," which considers the environment, society, and the future through the lens of beauty, at GEOC (Global Environment Centre Partnership Plaza) on August 1, 2026.

In recent years, cosmetic waste that is discarded without being fully used, and "cosmetic loss" for which proper disposal methods are not well known, have become social issues. On the other hand, beauty is a familiar presence for many people and can serve as an opportunity to think about environmental issues as a personal concern.

"Beaufa-Lab" is a participatory program where participants learn about cosmetic waste, resource circulation, diversity, and self-expression through dialogue and experiences, rather than ending beauty with "consumption." Through upcycling experiences and participant interaction, it provides a space for each individual to consider actions for the future.

[A Sustainable Future Starting with Beauty]

Instead of ending beauty with "consumption," why not think about the connections with the environment, society, and yourself? Unused cosmetics left behind. Samples that have accumulated before you know it. Have you ever thought, "How should I dispose of this?"

At Beaufa Lab,

We view beauty not merely as consumption, but as an entry point to thinking about the environment, society, and the future.

In this workshop,

・The current state of cosmetic waste

・Beauty and SDGs

・Sustainable beauty habits

・The future of beauty and lifestyle

While learning about these topics,

We will actually reflect on our own cosmetics and lifestyles,

And think together about actions we can take starting tomorrow.

Furthermore, Ms. Kaori Ishida, a leading expert in cosmetic culture research, will deliver a message considering connections with the environment, society, and oneself through beauty.

"Why do people wear makeup?" "How is beauty connected to our lives and society?"

This is a special lecture to start learning at Beaufa Lab, offering a new perspective on beauty.

Instead of learning about environmental issues in a difficult way, let's find "what I can do" while reflecting on our own makeup pouches and lifestyles!

Those who like beauty,

Those interested in SDGs,

Students,

And those aiming for the beauty industry are all welcome.

"Changing the future through beauty"

Wouldn't you like to experience the first step together?

We will re-examine our relationship with beauty.

Experience upcycling, where new value is created by utilizing cosmetics that are no longer used.

Learn ideas for cherishing resources while enjoying beauty.

[Instructor Profile]

Akiko Tomita

Director and Business General Manager of NPO Beaufa

Graduated from Yokohama National University. At a cosmetic OEM manufacturer, she was involved in the research and development, manufacturing, and distribution of skincare, makeup, and hair care products, gaining extensive knowledge and experience of how cosmetics reach consumers.

Subsequently, driven by the desire to "be directly involved in the lives of cosmetic users, not just make cosmetics," she obtained a beautician's license and became a hair and makeup artist. She worked for over 10 years in various fields such as bridal, advertising, and events, contributing to self-expression and self-esteem improvement through beauty.

She also utilizes her long-cultivated beauty knowledge and skills in corporate training and education at beauty vocational schools.

Through her experiences as both a cosmetic manufacturer and a hair and makeup artist, she has realized that while beauty has a great power to make people positive, social issues such as cosmetic waste and beauty disparities also exist.

Currently, as the Director and Business General Manager of NPO Beaufa, she is working towards "creating a circular society through beauty" through initiatives such as cosmetic donation, beauty education, and awareness-raising about reducing cosmetic waste.

"Beauty is not just about external appearance; it has the power to connect people, communities, and society."

Based on this belief, she is disseminating new forms of social contribution that use beauty as an entry point.
