NPO kimyo-na-manul (Obu City, Aichi Prefecture, Representative: Marina Azuchi) will hold an admissions briefing for "Manurusukore," an alternative school without schedules, classes, homework, or tests where children decide their own daily activities. The briefing will take place on Sunday, July 26, 2026. The target audience includes new 1st graders for elementary school, new 1st graders for junior high school (currently 6th graders), and new 1st graders for high school (currently 3rd year junior high students), all of whom are at a turning point in their educational path. To facilitate in-depth discussions, each session will be limited to just 4 participants (reservations required).
Background: Moving from "Becoming Absent" to "Choosing Education"
"Hesitant to go to school in the morning"
"Tired of being evaluated by mass lectures and tests"
"I want my child to grow up freely and be themselves" --.
Many parents struggle, feeling a disconnect with school life but unable to find other options.
In the first place,
"School options are only available to wealthy families who can afford to send their children to private or international schools, and otherwise, they have no choice but to attend public schools."
Some may think this way.
Feeling "unsuited for school," becoming so-called truant, and then "searching for a place to go" or "a support system."
By that time, both the child and the parents are often hurt and exhausted.
Now, in an era where education can be chosen without the financial burden of attending public school.
Why not choose education before becoming truant, before losing confidence due to poor grades?
Interest in alternative education is growing nationwide, but much of it is concentrated in urban areas, posing a challenge due to the limited options in regional cities.
*Alternative education refers to education that serves as "another option," incorporating unique educational philosophies and teaching methods that differ from the frameworks of mass lectures, schedules, and tests adopted by conventional public schools.
In response to this situation, our organization operates "Manurusukore" as a "community-based" learning space rooted in the Chita Peninsula area, based in Obu City, Aichi Prefecture.
We are disseminating a new educational model from the regions, unbound by existing frameworks, with the concept of "thinking about one's own life."
"Decide for Yourself, Act on Your Own" -- The Real Daily Life at Manurusukore
At Manurusukore, there are no adult-imposed schedules, mass lectures, homework, or tests. Children decide what they want to explore each day and advance their learning independently. A symbolic example is lunchtime. The children themselves take the lead in everything from discussing the menu to grocery shopping, cooking, and cleaning up. We are convinced that the accumulation of experiences of "choosing for oneself" and "learning proactively," rather than "being taught," leads to the "independence" and "problem-setting ability" that are most needed in the unpredictable AI era.
Admissions Briefing Overview
On the day, we will share actual examples of children's activities and the flow of a typical day, and engage in small-group discussions about Manurusukore's educational philosophy.
