NPO OWS and five other organizations will host the "World Albatross Day & Seabird Week 2026" from June 19 to 25, 2026, primarily at the Tokyo Port Wild Bird Park. This event aims to raise awareness about seabird conservation. Key highlights include an exhibition running until July 5 featuring art and a special photo gallery celebrating the short-tailed albatross population recovering to 10,000 birds. A Little Tern observation tour will be held on June 20 at the Morigasaki Water Reclamation Center. On June 21, expert lectures on climate change and marine plastics will be accessible both in-person and online via Zoom. Additionally, an original musical depicting the history and conservation of the short-tailed albatross will be performed. The event marks significant milestones: the 2001 signing of the ACAP agreement on June 19, and the 75th anniversary of the short-tailed albatross's rediscovery in 1951 after being thought extinct, highlighting successful ongoing conservation efforts.
