Hanaiya Yaemon Exterior

"Hanaiya Yaemon" (Location: 1227 Oka, Asuka Village, Takaichi District, Nara Prefecture), a renovated traditional Japanese house cafe in Asuka Village, Nara Prefecture, is pleased to announce the launch of its "Yosei Satoyama Spice Curry." This new dish layers the historical memories breathing in Asuka with the blessings of the countryside onto a single plate.

Hanaiya Yaemon stands in a townhouse passed down since the mid-Edo period, which has walked alongside the landscape of Asuka for many years.

Interior: Evoking the Silk Road and the Asuka Period

Over 1300 years ago, Asuka was an entry point for diverse cultures arriving from the continent. Spices, tea, prayer, art, music – it was a land where various thoughts, cultures, and people intersected, fostering the foundations of Japanese culture.

Hanaiya Yaemon is a cultural salon that overlays these memories of Asuka onto the present day, reinterpreting them through food and art.

Yosei Satoyama Spice Curry

In its cuisine, the cafe incorporates seasonal blessings encountered in the land of Asuka, the bounty of the satoyama (countryside), and ingredients that harmonize with the rhythms of nature. Each dish is carefully crafted, cherishing the encounters of the day and moment. Along with the rising aroma of spices, it offers a time to quietly reflect on a journey through distant eras.

Furthermore, Hanaiya Yaemon hosts events that go beyond just food, incorporating music, art, and historical culture. We will continue our efforts to overlay the memories of Asuka, where different cultures intersected, onto the present day through initiatives such as the sounds of the darbuka tracing the memories of the Silk Road, live painting created on the spot, and seasonal food culture projects.

Interior: Antique Beauty and Lingering Charm

Set within a townhouse passed down since the mid-Edo period, it serves as a small cultural salon where people and culture quietly intersect. We hope that savoring a single dish becomes a small journey to a distant era.
