The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries has established the "Study Group for Accelerating GX in the Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Sector" to promote GX through the acceleration of initiatives under the Green Food System Strategy. The 7th meeting of the study group will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.
1. Background Since the formulation of the "Green Food System Strategy" (hereinafter referred to as the "Green Strategy"), efforts to reduce environmental impact have steadily progressed. However, Japan's average annual temperature has been rising over the long term, raising concerns about the impact of high temperatures on production sites. Furthermore, as GX becomes a cross-sectoral issue for the entire government, it is important to promote GX through the acceleration of the Green Strategy's initiatives to enhance the sustainability of the food, agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector. In addition, based on the new "Basic Plan for Food, Agriculture and Rural Areas" (Cabinet decision on April 11, 2025), the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries plans to compile a "Green Acceleration GX Plan" as measures to be intensively promoted by 2030. For this reason, the "Study Group for Accelerating GX in the Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Sector" was established with the aim of identifying the key points for accelerating the Green Strategy to realize GX promotion in the food, agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector, grasping the actual situation of production sites, identifying immediate important issues, and determining effective countermeasures. The study group will continue to solicit opinions from various stakeholders in the food system.
