Abe Kogyo Co., Ltd. (ABE), headquartered in Shinjuku and led by President Kiyomitsu Abe, announced it received the 'First Pioneer COC Award' in the timber trading category at the FSC Japan 20th Anniversary Event held on May 28, 2026. The event theme was 'The 20 Years of Pioneers Becoming Tomorrow's Standard - Rekindling Our Passion for Forests.' The award honors companies that have long contributed to the spread and development of the FSC certification system. ABE was recognized as the first timber trading company in Japan to obtain FSC Chain of Custody (CoC) certification. In 2000, ABE launched 'Crude,' a wooden door using FSC-certified timber. The company has since developed product lines including 'calmo' and 'Natural Vintage,' both utilizing FSC-certified wood. FSC Japan, established in 2006, promotes responsible forest management and sustainable timber use. The anniversary event reviewed 20 years of FSC certification in Japan and honored contributing companies. A panel discussion among award recipients covered efforts from FSC certification's early days to the present and explored future possibilities for timber use and forest certification. ABE, founded in 1945, plans to continue promoting environmentally conscious manufacturing through timber use, contributing to forest resource circulation and quality living environments.
