Vermeer's Masterpiece 'Girl with a Pearl Earring' Through Your Eyes - Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Japan Hosts Art Contest

The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Japan will host the art contest 'My Girl with a Pearl - in Japan 2026' starting in July 2026, aiming to further increase interest in Dutch art in Japan. This contest invites participants to create works inspired by 'Girl with a Pearl Earring,' a masterpiece by 17th-century Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer, housed at the Mauritshuis museum in the Netherlands. Participants are encouraged to create works freely from their own perspectives. This project is a Japanese version of the 'My Girl with a Pearl' campaign conducted by the Mauritshuis in 2023, which received a great response. By holding it in conjunction with the 'Vermeer Exhibition' to be held at the Osaka City Museum of Fine Arts in the summer of 2026, we hope that many people will feel closer to Dutch art and culture.
