Furthermore, due to the widespread reach of the short film, its lead actor, Takara Sakumoto, and scriptwriter/director, Takeshi Yamashiro, are confirmed to appear on three major television stations in Okinawa Prefecture.

MOM FoR STAR, launched in April 2021, is now in its sixth year. Rather than being a one-off employment support initiative, we aim to continue expanding our community network as an ongoing project.

Short Film Surpasses 120,000 Views! Growing Empathy for Single Mothers' 'Challenges'

Okinawa Prefecture faces long-standing structural issues, including child poverty rates and single-parent household ratios that exceed the national average. The challenges faced by single mothers, in particular, tend to be intergenerational.

To break this cycle, MOM FoR STAR has been providing employment support through the acquisition of IT and creative skills. Our activities have revealed a definite change: mothers' challenges foster hope in their children.

This film was produced to widely communicate these mothers' challenges and the changes in their children. Featuring acclaimed actor Takara Sakumoto, it depicts the 'resilience' of the mothers involved in MOM FoR STAR and how their endeavors connect families and the next generation with hope, all from the perspective of a young person.

What is MOM FoR STAR?

MOM FoR STAR is an employment and collaboration project in the digital design field for single mothers in Okinawa, comprising three core activities: 'Learning,' 'Working,' and 'Connecting.' It is a collaborative effort between Four Digit Inc. in Tokyo, Umusan Lab Inc. in Okinawa, and the support organization Single Mothers Forum Okinawa.

Launched in 2021, the project has received awards such as the 2021 Good Design Award, Work Story Award 2021, and WORK DESIGN AWARD 2023.
