A magnitude 7.8 earthquake struck off the southern coast of the Philippines on June 8, causing extensive damage and affecting over 1.6 million people. AAR Japan (Association for Aid and Relief, Japan) dispatched Japanese staff the following day, June 9, to begin emergency relief efforts, which have included food distribution, psychological care for victims, and cash assistance.

On July 8, one month after the earthquake, AAR will hold an online briefing on its activities. Kazuya Omuro and Shiori Kiryu from the emergency relief team, who were involved in support activities in the affected areas, will report on the situation on the ground, the voices of the victims, and AAR's relief efforts.

"What is needed on the ground now?" "How is aid being delivered?" "What can we do?" We will present the reality of the affected areas, which cannot be fully seen through news reports alone, with photos and videos. We sincerely look forward to your participation.

Kazuya OMURO

After graduating from university, he worked as a physical therapist while researching preventive care in graduate school. After working at a hospital, he joined the Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers and provided rehabilitation to patients and training to staff at the National Rehabilitation Center in Uzbekistan. He joined AAR in August 2013. Currently, Operations Manager of the Support Business Department.

Shiori KIRYU

After working for a private company, she joined AAR in 2024. She is in charge of public relations in the Public Relations and Communications Department.
