Changes in English Education

It has been over three years since English became a required subject in elementary schools, and English education for elementary school students has become established nationwide.

The English curriculum guidelines for elementary schools (from fiscal year 2020) and junior high schools (from fiscal year 2021) have changed significantly. Currently, 5th and 6th graders have two English classes per week, totaling 70 hours, and English has become a graded subject to develop the four skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing in a balanced way.

As it is now a graded subject, the curriculum has been expanded to cover four skills and five domains, with a curriculum designed to be continuous with junior high school level English. The goal is "to foster the foundational qualities and abilities for communication." This is almost identical to the content of the previous junior high school curriculum guidelines.

In other words, the level of English learned in elementary school has increased significantly and become more difficult.

Furthermore, the grades in which "foreign language activities (English)" are conducted have been moved forward, starting from 3rd and 4th graders.

Additionally, the number of vocabulary words to be learned in junior high school has increased from 1,200 to 1,600-1,800 words, an increase of 400 words.

Junior high schools aim for all-English instruction.

In elementary schools, in particular, the entire learning environment for students is changing significantly, with not only English but also programming classes becoming compulsory subjects.

And, university entrance exams compliant with the new curriculum guidelines will begin from the 2024 academic year university entrance exams (conducted in January 2025).

Now is the Time for ActiMethod's Typing-Based English Learning

ActiMethod's strength lies in its learning method that allows for the input of a large number of English words in a short time, and all general English "writing" is done through typing.

Students learn vocabulary by typing English words on a keyboard, thereby improving their vocabulary. As they type English words while listening to their pronunciation, they can practice spelling along with correct pronunciation.

Once students become accustomed to practicing English through typing, they can type 5 to 10 times faster than writing by hand.

Message from the School Principal

This is Endo, the principal of Kikuna School. We aim to create a school that fosters essential English skills while having fun in the Kikuna/Okurayama area, which has a high level of interest in education. ActiMethod is a learning method that uses English and typing to help children learn proactively and steadily improve their vocabulary, reading, and writing skills. We will build a solid foundation that fosters a love for English and leads to Eiken (STEP Eiken) success.

[6th Grade Student] I want to understand the English spoken in movies!

It's really fun to learn a lot of different English words one after another. I can now naturally translate Japanese into English, and when I go to see a movie, I can understand most of what the characters are saying in English.

[Preschooler, 3rd Grade, 6th Grade / Parent] My children's English skills have improved so much they won awards in a national competition!

A friend introduced me to a place where children could learn both English and typing, so we went for a trial lesson. My child was really hooked and said, "I definitely want to learn here." They had never touched a computer before, but more than that, the teacher's lessons were so fun that I think they came to love English. Currently, my two children are attending, and their English skills have improved remarkably, with my older son winning 2nd place and my younger daughter winning 3rd place in a national vocabulary competition.
