JSRA is an industry-wide organization aiming to foster a culture of "repairing and continuing to use" everyday items such as clothing, shoes, and bags, thereby enhancing the social value of the repair industry and contributing to the realization of a circular economy.

Participating Companies in Establishment

Background of Participation in Establishment

In Japan, reducing clothing waste from households is a social issue, with the government setting a target of a 25% reduction by 2030 compared to fiscal year 2020. The Ministry of the Environment also highlights that consumers can take action by caring for and repairing their existing clothes to extend their lifespan.

Meanwhile, the repair industry, which is responsible for this, faces numerous structural challenges such as the dispersion of small businesses, labor shortages, and stagnation in skill transfer.

For many years, our company has been assisting customers in extending the life of their cherished belongings through our services in [repair of clothing, shoes, bags, etc. / reform business / repair business]. However, despite being a necessary service for society, the repair industry is not yet fully recognized as an "industry."

By participating in the establishment of JSRA and working to build a foundation of technology, human resources, quality, and systems as advocated by the association, we will contribute to the promotion of a "culture of repairing and continuing to use" and the realization of sustainable living and a circular economy.

JSRA's Vision and Mission

JSRA's vision is "To carry forward the culture of repairing and continuing to use into the future. To make repair a proud industry for society." The association aims to contribute to the realization of sustainable living and a circular economy by developing a foundation of technology, human resources, quality, and systems, and promoting the repair/reform industry.

Main Functions of the Association: Four Pillars

JSRA's values are "Polish. Nurture. Connect. Expand."

By establishing four foundational pillars—technology, human resources, systems, and culture—we will implement the practice of "repairing and continuing to use" in society.

1. Polish | Standardization of Technology and Quality Assurance

We will develop evaluation criteria for repair quality, construction standards, terminology definitions, and quality assurance marks to create an environment where consumers can choose repairs with confidence.

2. Nurture | Promotion of Human Resource Development and Education

Through a skills certification system, educational programs, and school collaborations, we will enhance the social status of technicians and create pathways for young talent to enter the field.

3. Connect | Policy and Cross-Industry Collaboration

As the official point of contact for the repair industry, we will promote collaboration with government agencies, educational institutions, commercial facilities, and related companies to address industry-wide challenges.

4. Expand | Public Relations Activities and Culture Cultivation

We will disseminate the culture of repair through events, media, and social media, and promote the action of "repairing and continuing to use" throughout society.

Representative's Comment

For 40 years since our founding, we have been dedicated to supporting our customers' desire to "continue using their cherished items for a long time" through repair and mending services. In recent years, with growing interest in sustainability and a circular economy, repair and mending are not just services but are becoming increasingly important as social infrastructure that effectively utilizes resources and reduces waste. Initiatives to realize a circular economy through repair are also expanding both domestically and internationally.

We are now participating in the Japan Sustainable Repair Association to widely communicate the value of repair and mending to society, and to contribute to the development of the entire industry through quality improvement, human resource development, standardization of technology, and collaboration with government agencies and brand companies. We believe that challenges that cannot be solved by a single company can create new value when the industry joins forces. We will continue to strive to make "repair" a proud industry for society and to pass on the "culture of cherishing things" to the future.
