LasKoi, a matching app platform (managed by Isac Group, based in Shibuya, Tokyo, CEO Kosei Yamaguchi), conducted a 'Survey on the Well-being of Middle-to-Senior Adults' in May 2026, targeting 1,365 users aged 40 to 80.

The study reveals that 82.4% of respondents feel anxious about their living arrangements 10 to 20 years from now. Women expressed higher anxiety than men, and the unmarried cohort reported the highest level of concern regarding living alone in the future.

Regarding their ideal lifestyle, 48.4% preferred maintaining a 'trusted partner but not necessarily cohabitation (such as living nearby or dating-style marriage),' indicating a preference for healthy distance. Among those currently living with their children, 62.1% chose non-cohabitation, suggesting a desire to establish new relationships without significantly altering their established routines.

Expectations for LasKoi varied by age: those in their 40s and 50s tended to value relationships that could lead to legal marriage if necessary, while those 60 and older favored independent, supportive partnerships without formal marriage. Only 8.3% sought immediate marriage or remarriage, suggesting that anxiety does not necessarily correlate to a rush for marriage.

The findings highlight a significant shift in values regarding lifestyle and housing among the middle-to-senior demographic, underscoring the need for flexible, diverse partnership support that moves beyond conventional marriage concepts.
