According to a survey of 246 people with experience leaving a home vacant, conducted by AlbaLink Inc., the most common actual damages were "increased maintenance costs" (27.6%) and "friction with neighbors" (23.6%). The number one regret was "I should have managed it properly" (26.8%), with many lamenting their failure to take early action such as regular maintenance, selling the property, or demolishing it. The survey reveals that the longer a house is left vacant, the greater the financial, social, and logistical burdens become.
