Prime Video announced today that the Prime Original series 'Bless' will premiere exclusively worldwide in spring 2027 across more than 240 countries and regions. Based on the manga 'Bless' serialized in Monthly Shōnen Sirius (published by Kodansha), the series is a youth drama about Udagawa Aia, a former model aspiring to become a makeup artist, and Tansaki Jun, a high school student dreaming of becoming a model, who discover their true selves and personal growth through makeup. It has been confirmed that Ryohei Onishi of Naniwa Danshi will play the lead role of Udagawa Aia. Alongside this announcement, the teaser visual and comments from lead actor Ryohei Onishi, original creator Yukino Sonoyama, and makeup supervisor Ikuko Shindo have been released. Additionally, a newly drawn illustration by Sonoyama has been unveiled.

The Prime Original series 'Bless' will be available as part of the Amazon Prime membership benefits. Prime members can enjoy unlimited access to fast and convenient shipping benefits such as same-day and scheduled delivery, as well as various shopping perks and entertainment offerings at no additional cost.

The protagonist, Udagawa Aia, is a high school student and former model. While she once pursued a modeling career and dreamed of becoming a makeup artist, she gave up on that dream out of fear of disappointing others' expectations. One day, Aia teams up with her quiet classmate Tansaki Jun—who hunches his back to hide the freckles on his face—for a school festival contest, taking on the roles of stylist and model respectively. The series portrays the challenges and inner conflicts of youth as Aia rediscovers her true self through the power of makeup, uncovering the passion for her dream that she had long buried.

Ryohei Onishi, known for his roles in films such as 'We Can't Break Up, We're in a Band' (2024) and dramas like 'Yokohama Neighbors' (2026) and 'Kosasu Life' (2023), takes on the role of Udagawa Aia. Widely recognized in the entertainment industry as a makeup enthusiast—so much so that he has a column in a beauty magazine—Onishi visited Shiseido's hair and makeup school, SABFA, prior to filming. He thoroughly studied the techniques, mannerisms, and mindset of professional makeup artists, preparing meticulously for the role.

Ikuko Shindo, Top Hair & Makeup Artist at Shiseido, serves as the makeup supervisor for the series. She guided the young actors portraying aspiring makeup artists, including Aia, and oversaw the makeup designs throughout the production, resulting in high-quality, authentic makeup scenes.

The unveiled teaser visual features Ryohei Onishi as Aia, holding a makeup brush in her mouth while applying makeup to her own eyes. Reflecting the story's theme of Aia overcoming her fear of showing her true self through makeup, the image captures her gaze filled with confidence and determination.

Additionally, a newly drawn illustration by original creator Yukino Sonoyama has been released. Set against a vibrant backdrop of colorful flowers, the illustration shows Aia and Jun sharing a bright, cheerful smile. The original manga 'Bless' is a popular series that explores the importance of embracing one's true self and the value of pursuing dreams through compelling characters. It has garnered strong support not only from youth interested in fashion and beauty but also from adult audiences who have experienced struggles with dreams and career paths. With the live-action drama adaptation of the highly anticipated 'Bless'—which also has a TV anime adaptation scheduled for 2027—audiences worldwide can look forward to this heartfelt story.

<Cast and Creator Comments>

Ryohei Onishi, Lead Actor: Role of Udagawa Aia

I was truly honored to be entrusted with the role of Udagawa Aia. At the same time, I felt a strong desire to portray Aia's passion and inner struggles with care and sincerity.

With the cooperation of Shiseido's SABFA, I was able to learn not only makeup techniques but also the demeanor and mindset of a professional makeup artist even before filming began. It was such a wonderful environment to learn in. For someone like me who loves makeup, this experience was truly luxurious. Moreover, every aspect of this production—from the 'actions of applying makeup' to the 'cosmetics used in the drama'—is portrayed with authenticity.

Working closely with the original creator Yukino Sonoyama-sensei and professionals from various fields, we carefully crafted each scene together. I am filled with immense gratitude and happiness.

I hope this drama 'Bless' can inspire everyone who continues to pursue their dreams. I can't wait for spring 2027!

Yukino Sonoyama, Original Creator

Truly remarkable people have come together for this project.

Every word, every set, every beam of light, and each person involved—including lead actor Onishi-san—shines brilliantly. This is a passionate, dazzling, and delicate drama, like a piece of glass art.

I sincerely hope that everyone involved and everyone who will watch it in the future will be surrounded by the light of blessings.

Ikuko Shindo, Shiseido Top Hair & Makeup Artist / Makeup Direction

We challenged various forms of expression while staying true to each individual's feelings and drawing out their unique charm. I would be delighted if viewers can feel the joy and new forms of expression through this series.

Just as 'Bless' means 'blessing,' I was reminded of the joy of using hair and makeup to support others and bring happiness. This work has also given me the strength to move forward.

I hope the possibilities and joy of hair and makeup reach many more people.

Buddy Marini, Head of Amazon MGM Studios Japan

The message of this story—that makeup is not about changing one's appearance, but about revealing one's true self—deeply moved me. I am confident that the combination of Ryohei Onishi's passion and Shiseido's authentic makeup expertise will create a work that inspires viewers. I am truly delighted that this series will reach Prime members around the world.
