AOAO SAPPORO to Launch Permanent Exhibition of Rare Siberian Salamanders for Conservation Partnership

AOAO SAPPORO, an urban aquarium in Sapporo, will begin a permanent exhibition of the Siberian Salamander starting May 11, 2026. In collaboration with Shibecha Town, the project focuses on conserving this endangered species listed in Japan's Red List. Visitors can observe the entire growth process from eggs to larvae in the aquarium's laboratory. Following a successful release of 200 salamanders in 2025, the facility plans to release the next batch back into the Kushiro Wetland in summer 2026.
