The refill pack for 'Look Plus Bathtub Cleanser Clear Citrus Scent Refill Large Size,' jointly developed by Toyo Ink Co., Ltd. (President and CEO: Hideki Yasuda, Chuo-ku, Tokyo), a member of the artience Group, and Lion Corporation (Representative Director and President: Yukiyoshi Takenomori, Taito-ku, Tokyo), has won the 'WorldStar Award' in the Household category at the WorldStar Competition 2026, hosted by the World Packaging Organisation (WPO).
Award ceremony (May 8, 2026, Düsseldorf, Germany)
Most plastic packaging is printed with inks to display product names, ingredients, warnings, and to enhance design appeal. Additionally, film packaging for food, detergents, toiletries, and refill pouches is typically constructed as multi-layered films, where different material films are bonded together with adhesives to meet specific performance requirements for each application.
The 'printing inks' and 'adhesives' essential to packaging are designed to adhere firmly to plastic, making them difficult to remove during recycling processes. This has historically hindered the production of high-quality recycled plastic and limited the applications for recycled materials. The refill pack developed jointly with Lion Corporation represents a practical application of 'delamination recycling technology,' which enables efficient recovery of recyclable single-material plastics from such multi-layered films. This award recognizes the significant contribution of this technology—specifically, the use of a specially designed adhesive that allows easy separation of multiple materials while maintaining container quality, thereby enabling efficient recovery of high-quality 'polyethylene film' as a single material. This advancement is expected to greatly promote the use of recycled materials in flexible packaging.
