KAELOOP Tumbler with Original Picture Book

Asahi Yuuas Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Tokyo; President and CEO: Yukako Mori) will launch the 'KAELOOP Gift Box'—a combination of the 'KAELOOP Tumbler,' made from 100% marine biodegradable biomass plastic, and an original picture book—on July 20, 'Marine Day,' via its EC site 'Asahi Yuuas Mall.'

The original picture book, 'Koppu-kun and Osaru-kun,' was created based on the development background of the 'KAELOOP Tumbler' and the company's commitment to environmental issues. It tells the story of the main characters, Koppu-kun and Osaru-kun, after they are washed into the ocean. Illustrated with vibrant artwork by Naha-born illustrator Katsuyuki Yo, the book is designed to be enjoyable for adults as well as children. By selling the tumbler together with the book, the company aims to spark conversations among families and readers, encouraging reflection on environmental issues.

This gift set was produced through a crowdfunding project conducted in February 2026. Through general sales, the company aims to foster an environment where people don’t just 'learn about' environmental issues, but 'feel, discuss, realize, and take action.'

About Katsuyuki Yo

Born in Naha City, Katsuyuki Yo graduated from the Design Department at Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts. After working as a graphic designer at an advertising agency in Tokyo, he returned to Okinawa, where he was inspired by the region’s natural beauty, resilient life forms, and traditional culture to begin his artistic career. Influenced by techniques such as Bingata dyeing, lacquerware, shadow puppetry, ukiyo-e, and Jomon pottery, he developed a unique style he calls 'Ryukyu Illustration.' In 2017, he opened 'art gallery soranoe' in Okinawa City, serving as both studio and gallery. He has collaborated with major brands including Uniqlo, Kokuyo, DFS, Sunshine Aquarium, and Orion Beer, and serves as a part-time lecturer in the Design Department at Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts.

About the 'KAELOOP Tumbler'

The 'KAELOOP Tumbler' is made from 100% marine biodegradable biomass plastic and has been available for sale since October 2025 on the 'Asahi Yuuas Mall' and other EC sites. Durable and shatter-resistant, it is ideal for outdoor use at beaches and events, and safe for children. The marine biodegradable biomass plastic used is 'cellulose acetate resin,' made from plant-based materials like cellulose and acetic acid, which ultimately breaks down into water and carbon dioxide. The 'KAELOOP Tumbler' has received certification from the Japan Bioplastics Association (JBPA) as a 'Marine Biodegradable Biomass Plastic' product—the first such certification for tableware in Japan.

Plastic waste flowing from rivers and urban areas into the ocean has become an internationally recognized issue, severely impacting marine life and ecosystems. In Japan, plastic shopping bags became chargeable nationwide in 2020, and the 'Plastic Resource Circulation Promotion Act' enacted in 2022 mandates the reduction of disposable plastic products like cutlery in hotels and convenience stores. Asahi Yuuas aims to contribute to solving marine plastic pollution by offering cups that decompose in seawater through microbial action, ultimately returning to water and carbon dioxide.

Established in 2022, Asahi Yuuas is a company within the Asahi Group dedicated to new sustainability initiatives. It has previously launched reusable products such as the 'Mori Tumbler' and 'Mori My Bottle,' as well as the 'Coffeeloop Project,' which upcycles coffee byproducts.
