U-LABO (Avalon Consulting Co., Ltd.) will host an online seminar titled "Parent-Child Dialogue: The Journey to Overseas University Admission" on Saturday, July 18, 2026. This seminar will take the form of a dialogue, where parents and children who have successfully gained admission to top universities worldwide will share their personal experiences, struggles, and honest thoughts during the preparation period. Participation is free, but prior registration is required.
Background
When a child expresses interest in attending an overseas university, parents face various challenges, including selecting target schools, managing application schedules, and preparing financially. While practical information can be easily researched, it is often difficult to find guidance on more delicate matters such as "how involved should parents be?" or "what is the right way to support without overstepping?"—issues concerning parent-child dynamics and emotional boundaries.
To address this gap, we have organized this seminar to deliver the authentic, behind-the-scenes voices of families who have firsthand experience with overseas university admissions.
Seminar Features
Parents and children who have successfully entered overseas universities will take the stage and share their journey from preparation to the present, each from their own perspective—parent and child.
The dialogue will cover the following topics:
- Reasons for deciding to study abroad - Moments when parent and child opinions clashed, and how they resolved them - How they maintained an appropriate emotional distance - The child’s perception of pressure from their parent - Messages to families considering overseas education
