Casio Computer Co., Ltd. announces that its mathematics education initiatives in the Arab Republic of Egypt and the United Mexican States have been selected for the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's (MEXT) 'Support Project for Overseas Expansion of Japanese-Style Education (EDU-Port Nippon), FY2026'. Egypt has been selected for the third consecutive year, while this marks the first selection for Mexico.
'EDU-Port Nippon' is a government-private sector collaboration initiative aimed at promoting the overseas expansion of Japanese-style education. Casio has been continuously conducting 'GAKUHAN' activities—including teacher training and educational material development—to promote the use of scientific calculators in schools worldwide and contribute to educational advancement. The company's GAKUHAN activities in both countries have now been recognized and selected.
Key Initiatives in Egypt
Since the first phase was selected in December 2023, Casio has partnered with Egypt's Ministry of Education and Technical Education (MOETE) and Egypt-Japan Schools (EJS) to support the introduction of inquiry-based learning using scientific calculators. Specifically, Casio has regularly conducted training sessions for mathematics teachers aimed at enhancing students' active learning and mathematical thinking skills. In public schools, approximately 100 trainers have delivered training sessions over the past year, reaching over 5,200 teachers cumulatively.
For this third phase, Casio will continue to utilize the teacher training framework developed under the EDU-Port Nippon Support Project to promote the practical implementation and institutionalization of inquiry-based lessons using scientific calculators.
Key Initiatives in Mexico
In Mexico, Casio will launch GAKUHAN activities focused on improving mathematics teachers' instructional capabilities. The project will implement two types of training: one supporting lesson design aligned with local curricula using scientific calculators, and another enhancing teachers' practical skills in using calculators during lessons. The training will incorporate widely used methods from Japanese teacher development programs, such as mock lessons and lesson plan development, to ensure practical, hands-on learning.
Additionally, Casio plans to apply CRM (Customer Relationship Management) systems to evaluate training effectiveness and provide customized support based on individual teachers' calculator proficiency levels. This system will continue to support teachers' professional development even after the training concludes. The outcomes from this initiative will be leveraged for future expansion into other countries.
Casio is committed to the purpose of 'Empowering joy beyond today through accessible innovation,' and will continue contributing to global education by promoting the joy of learning and creating new value.
