CCS Inc. (Headquarters: Kamigyo-ku, Kyoto; President and CEO: Hiroyuki Onishi) has announced the launch of its "Dual-Axis Phase Shift Illumination," which excels in the high-difficulty detection of defects in glossy and transparent objects.
Conventional inspection lighting has made it difficult to detect defects in objects with gloss or transparency. This is because light reflects off or transmits through the object, causing unwanted reflections or distortions, making it hard to capture the difference between flat surfaces and areas with shape changes, thus hindering defect detection.
CCS Inc. is releasing the LED illumination "Dual-Axis Phase Shift Illumination," which achieves defect detection through a completely new method for these high-difficulty inspections.
This "Dual-Axis Phase Shift Illumination" projects stripe patterns (4 vertical and 4 horizontal patterns) onto the inspection object, capturing a total of 8 images. These images are then processed using the "Phase Shift Method (*1)" to achieve high-difficulty defect detection.
Depending on the inspection speed, the stripe patterns can be switched at high speed (*2). Furthermore, the width and number of stripe patterns, as well as the light-emitting surface size, can be tuned according to the size of the inspection object and the type of defect, allowing for application in various inspections. Additionally, it supports image processing inspections using line scan cameras, not just area cameras.
*1 A method that detects defects by projecting sine wave stripes with a 90-degree phase shift onto the object and using the information calculated from the distortion of these stripes.
*2 The settable lighting speed is up to 500 kHz.

About CCS Inc.
Established in Kyoto in 1993 as a manufacturer of LED lighting for inspection, CCS Inc. has been a leading company in inspection LED lighting. We provide proposals based on "Lighting Solutions," a technology that enhances inspection accuracy by developing new lighting and devising ways to use it, to customers in various industries. In recent years, we have been actively proposing a wider range of solutions that address new challenges and requests in the "inspection process" by collaborating with various camera manufacturers, lens manufacturers, and software vendors.
