A research group led by Satoshi Matsumiya and Professor Hayato Ishikawa at Chiba University has successfully achieved the world's first total synthesis of bisleuconothine A and bousigonine B. By combining a proprietary organocatalytic reaction with a condensation reaction mimicking plant biosynthesis, they have established a new strategy for synthesizing complex multimeric indole alkaloids. This achievement is expected to accelerate drug discovery research. The findings were published in the online edition of Angewandte Chemie International Edition on May 23, 2026.
