The Okinawa Miraijima Foundation has been working on the reproduction of the royal costumes of the Ryukyu Kingdom, known as 'King and Queen Attire,' which are used in historical reenactment events at Shuri Castle Park, thanks to a donation from Okinawa Electric Power Co., Ltd.

To commemorate the successful completion of these costumes, we are pleased to announce the 'Unveiling Exhibition of the Royal Costumes of the Ryukyu Kingdom' and the 'Ceremony Marking the Completion of the King and Queen Attire.'

These royal costumes were beloved by many as a centerpiece of historical reenactment events, but were tragically lost in the fire at Shuri Castle on October 31, Reiwa 1 (2019).

This time, based on the costumes created during the Heisei era, the attire has been faithfully reproduced through the supervision of experts and with the cooperation of traditional craft artisans from across Okinawa Prefecture. The exhibition will feature the first public display of the completed costumes and introduce Ryukyuan clothing culture, craftsmanship techniques, and efforts in technical succession.
