[Handa City, Aichi] Exhibition 'The World of Bird Carving' featuring 200 life-like wood-carved birds

This exhibition displays approximately 200 wild bird sculptures by Genji Inada, a resident of Handa City, created through trial and error amidst the rich nature of the Chita Peninsula. Visitors can get a close-up look at creatures that have become increasingly rare in recent years.

During the exhibition period, many participatory events suitable for summer research projects or family activities, such as a contest for illustrations of imaginary new bird species, will be held.

What is 'Bird Carving'? Bird carving is an art form that expresses the figures of wild birds realistically through wood sculpture. These carved and painted handicrafts also serve as useful educational resources for understanding bird classification and ecology.

● Meeting Real Birds at the Museum Visitors can observe birds such as the scops owl (Aichi's prefectural bird), eagle owls, owls, and parrots up close and compare them with the wooden sculptures. Date: July 19 (Sun) 13:00–16:00 Registration: Not required

● New Bird Species Illustration Contest Participants can draw illustrations of original bird species and describe their features. This event encourages children's creativity and can be used for summer homework. Categories: (1) Preschoolers, (2) Elementary students, (3) Junior high school students to adults Awards: One Excellence Award and two Honorable Mentions per category Application: Submit the required form at the museum reception.

★ Quiz rallies and craft workshops will also be held. ★ Museum visitors will receive a limited edition original postcard.

In addition, a special display featuring bird guidebooks will be held at the Handa City Library located in the same building.
