Lawson Inc. (Headquarters: Shinagawa Ward, Tokyo; President & CEO: Sadanobu Takezoe, hereinafter “Lawson”) and KDDI Corporation (Headquarters: Minato Ward, Tokyo; President & CEO: Hiroji Matsuda, hereinafter “KDDI”) will open the “Happy Lawson Town Hino Takahatadai Store” (hereinafter “the store”) on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at the UR rental housing complex Takahatadai-danchi (located in Hino City, Tokyo), managed by the Independent Administrative Institution Urban Renaissance Agency (Headquarters: Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture; Chairman: Masaru Ishida, hereinafter “UR”). This store serves as the first apartment-type model under the urban development vision “Happy Lawson Town,” which aims to create communities where people of all generations can live safely and joyfully with the store as a central hub.
While the “Happy Lawson Town Ikeda Fukudai Store” opened in June 2026 near a detached-house neighborhood in Ikeda City, Osaka Prefecture (Note 1), this new store represents the first model specifically targeting apartment-style housing complexes.
Based on the comprehensive cooperation agreement signed in June 2026 between Hino City (Mayor: Soji Koga), Lawson, and KDDI, the store and shared spaces within the housing complex will serve as venues for implementing initiatives aimed at addressing regional challenges, with the goal of creating a safer and more comfortable living environment for local residents. To further advance this initiative, Lawson, KDDI, and UR will sign a comprehensive cooperation agreement on the same day.

Previously operated as “Lawson Store 100” from 2011 until June 2026, the store will now reopen as a “Happy Lawson Town.” In addition to standard Lawson products and services, it will expand offerings focused on improving daily convenience and enhancing disaster preparedness functions, aiming to support residents’ lives and foster new community connections.
The store will strengthen its fresh food lineup—including produce, meat, and frozen fish—through collaboration with supermarket chain “Comodi Iida.” It will also offer pharmaceutical consultations, home healthcare advice, and sales of OTC medicines, caregiving supplies, and care foods via the co-located QuoCare Pharmacy. Additionally, it introduces “Eki Choku Bin,” a pickup service utilizing in-store lockers—a first-of-its-kind service among convenience stores. The store’s eat-in space will be used to encourage casual gatherings and exchanges among local residents, contributing to community revitalization. Furthermore, the store will be equipped with disaster-response signage, solar power generation, battery storage systems, and Starlink connectivity—features of the “Disaster Support Lawson” (Note 3)—to serve as a local disaster relief hub.

As a new initiative, a pilot program for a video-call delivery service will be conducted, allowing select residents of the Takahatadai complex to interact face-to-face with store staff via tablet screens while receiving shopping assistance.
During the pilot, selected residents will place orders using dedicated tablets provided to them, and store staff will deliver the ordered items on the same day. For those less familiar with digital devices, store staff will provide real-time support via video calls. Residents can receive personalized guidance from familiar store staff from the comfort of their homes, enabling stress-free shopping. Additionally, residents can access specialized consultations related to daily life offered at the store’s “Ponta Yorozu Sodansho (Ponta General Consultation Desk)” directly from their homes via the dedicated tablet.
The pilot program is scheduled to run until the end of November 2026, aiming to evaluate the potential of a new life-support model that combines locally rooted stores with technology, particularly for individuals who find going out or shopping burdensome due to childcare, caregiving, or recovery. Based on the results, the partners aim to expand the service.

By combining Lawson’s locally embedded stores with KDDI’s advanced technologies within the UR Takahatadai housing complex, the project aims to build a sustainable suburban housing model. Through these efforts, Lawson seeks to realize its vision of “regional revitalization.”
Lawson, KDDI, and UR will continue working together with Hino City and local stakeholders to further revitalize the Takahatadai complex and surrounding areas.
