Iruma City, Saitama Prefecture, a major production area for 'Sayama Tea'—one of Japan’s three premier tea varieties—hosted the 'Sayama Tea Day' commemorative event at the Iruma City Museum Alit on Sunday, June 7, 2026.
The event drew approximately 1,300 visitors, who enjoyed a day filled with 'Sayama Tea' experiences, including tea serving by Iruma City Tea Ambassadors, tea-themed workshops, and the limited sale of 'Sayama Tea Udon.'
Event Highlights
Tea Serving by Iruma City Tea Ambassadors A major highlight was the 'tea serving' session, which attracted large crowds from the start. Attendees enjoyed the refreshing aroma and deep umami of fresh tea brewed by the ambassadors.
Tea-Themed Workshops Workshops, such as creating 'Sayama Tea Sachets' and 'Original Sayama Tea Blends,' were highly popular among participants of all ages.
Special Exhibit: Riding Tea Harvester Attendees were fascinated by a large riding tea harvester, with many taking souvenir photos in the driver's seat.
Tea Ceremony at 'Seikyuan' The tea room 'Seikyuan' provided a space for visitors to experience the profound appeal of Sayama Tea in a formal setting.
First Joint Event: 'SYOKO Marche Iruma' The Iruma City Chamber of Commerce and Industry hosted a joint event featuring food trucks, stage performances, and kids' dance shows.
'Sayama Tea Udon' Launch & Furusato Nozei Availability Launched to commemorate the city's 60th anniversary, 700 boxes of 'Sayama Tea Udon' sold out in about an hour during the event. Due to high demand, Iruma City began additional sales at the Iruma City Tourism Association on June 8.
Furthermore, 'Sayama Tea Udon' will be available as a Furusato Nozei return gift starting Monday, June 15.
