Iruma City is collaborating with the anime "Mairimashita! Iruma-kun" to implement the "Mairimashita! Iruma City Debidebi Walking Campaign!" which encourages visitors who come to the city because of the anime to enjoy the charms of Iruma City while actually walking around the city.
Now, as a new walking spot, we are unveiling the design of an original manhole cover to be newly installed at the Cultural Creation Atelier Amigo.
The manhole cover features characters from the anime "Mairimashita! Iruma-kun". In the background, the "red sawtooth roof" of the Cultural Creation Atelier Amigo, the installation site, is depicted (a symbol of Iruma City's cultural creation hub and the history of its former textile industry).
Additionally, an unveiling ceremony will be held on Sunday, October 4 to commemorate the installation. Details are as follows. We would like to invite members of the media to cover the event.
*Please note that manhole cards will not be distributed at this time.

The "Sawtooth Roof" that Tells the History of Amigo
The background of this manhole cover depicts the "red sawtooth roof," which can be called the symbol of the Iruma City Cultural Creation Atelier Amigo.
Amigo's history is deeply connected to the textile industry. In 1900 (Meiji 33), the first full-scale chemical dyeing factory in the prefecture was established on this site. Later, in 1916 (Taisho 5), a facility that would become the predecessor of the Saitama Prefectural Textile Industrial Research Institute was built, taking root in the region as a place to cultivate textile technology, products, and human resources.
As the era shifted from Showa to Heisei, its role as a textile industrial research institute ended in 1998 (Heisei 10), but the remaining buildings were reborn as a place for citizens' cultural activities, opening as the "Cultural Creation Atelier Amigo" in 2001 (Heisei 13).
Today, it serves as a hub for various cultural activities such as music, theater, and art.
The "Sawtooth Roof" is a Form of Manufacturing Wisdom
The distinctive jagged roof was designed to bring natural light into the vast interior of the factory. This roof, which symbolizes the function of the factory that once supported the textile industry, is now affectionately known as the "symbol of Amigo."
From a "Place for Making Textiles" to a "Place for Making Culture"
In the past, textile technology was created here. Today, new culture is being born, including music, theater, and art.
From a place for making things to a place for making culture.
Although its role has changed with the times, it remains a place where people gather and create new things. This manhole cover expresses Iruma City's history and present, together with the characters from the anime "Mairimashita! Iruma-kun".
Making the Manhole a "Walking Destination"
The purpose of this manhole installation is not simply to install a design manhole cover. We aim for visitors who come to Iruma City because of the anime to search for the manhole, take photos, and then walk further around the city. Through this, we hope they will discover the charms of Iruma City they didn't know before, such as Amigo, shopping streets, and local shops.
Come to Iruma City to find the manhole.
And then, to the city of Iruma - welcome to the demon world!

About Iruma City
[From the Home of Sayama Tea to the World] Iruma City's Vision for a "Well-being City"
~A new model woven from world-class traditional technology and cutting-edge co-creation community development~
About one hour from the Tokyo metropolitan area. Blessed with the rich nature of the Kanto Plain, Iruma City offers beautiful tea plantation landscapes, the northernmost limit for large-scale tea gardens in Japan. It is a major production area of "Sayama tea" with a history of about 400 years, and achieved an unprecedented feat of "20 consecutive years and 25th time as Japan's No.1" at the National Hand-rolled Tea Competition, the first in history. Demonstrations were also given at the Osaka-Kansai Expo held in 2025, sharing this wonderful traditional technology with the world.
On the other hand, the diversity of "Johnson Town," redeveloped from a former US military base, with its American culture and large commercial facilities, is also a major attraction of our city. In 2022, it was selected as an "SDGs Future City" and enacted the nation's first "Delicious Sayama Tea Love Ordinance." Under the purpose of "creating and passing on a 'future original landscape' where people can live enriched lives," we aim to realize a "Well-being City Iruma."
Furthermore, through the public-private partnership platform "Iruma Future Co-creation Lab," we are continuously creating next-generation community development without boundaries, such as scent analysis with universities, e-sports, and cross-industry collaborations with entertainment companies.
