Special Website Launched for Saigo Takamori's 200th Birth and 150th Death Anniversaries Project!

Kagoshima City has launched the "Special Website for Saigo Takamori's 200th Birth and 150th Death Anniversaries Project" as a hub for disseminating information on various projects commemorating the 200th anniversary of Saigo Takamori's birth and the 150th anniversary of his death.

This special website will consolidate the latest project information, related events, tourist spots, facility information, product and merchandise details, and more, to widely share with citizens and tourists.

Towards the commemorative year of 2028 (Reiwa 10), we aim to foster an atmosphere for rediscovering Saigo Takamori's achievements and appeal, while also passing on Kagoshima's history and culture to the next generation.

Fiscal year Reiwa 9 will mark the significant milestones of his 200th birth anniversary and 150th death anniversary. This project will develop initiatives to rediscover the charm of Saigo and Kagoshima from various perspectives, including history, culture, food, and nature.
