Maizuru City has confirmed the nesting of storks, a national special natural monument, and the laying of one egg on a tower located in the Maruta district of the city. Maizuru City promotes the conservation of the natural environment and the protection of wildlife. It was discovered that a pair of storks was nesting on a tower in the Maruta district, and as a result of an investigation, it was confirmed that one egg had been laid as of April 27, 2026. The nesting individuals are a pair consisting of a 4-year-old male hatched in Awaji City, Hyogo Prefecture (individual number: J0416) and a 3-year-old female hatched in Ayabe City, Kyoto Prefecture (individual number: J0680). As for future plans, video cameras will be installed at the site around the end of May to conduct fixed-point observations for the hatching of chicks. After the hatching is confirmed, the city plans to proceed with attaching leg bands for individual identification.
