The city of Maizuru will hold a tour of the nationally registered tangible cultural property, the Kanzaki Brick Hoffmann Ring Kiln, on Saturday, June 20, 2026, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the designation of the Japan Heritage site "Chinjufu: Yokosuka, Kure, Sasebo, Maizuru ~ Towns Where You Can Feel the Dynamism of Japan's Modernization."
Overview and Cultural Value of the Tour
Maizuru City has been conducting a series of lectures on modern industrial heritage to deepen understanding of local history and modernization heritage. This time, to mark the 10th anniversary of the Japan Heritage designation, a special event focusing on one of the constituent cultural properties, a valuable modern industrial heritage site, will be held.
The target site, the Kanzaki Brick Hoffmann Ring Kiln, is a kiln that once produced bricks used in many buildings. Due to its historical value, it has been registered as a national tangible cultural property. Only a few Hoffmann kilns remain in Japan today. On the day, participants can tour the interior and structure with detailed explanations from a lecturer.
