Wishes for Peace on Tanzaku. Maizuru Repatriation Memorial Museum to Hold Tanabata Event in July

The Maizuru Repatriation Memorial Museum will hold the "Tanabata Event ~Wish Upon a Star~" from Thursday, July 2 to Tuesday, July 7, Reiwa 8 (2026), providing an opportunity to reflect on the importance of peace through a familiar seasonal event.

[Purpose and Background of the Event]

Through the accessible event of "Tanabata", the Maizuru Repatriation Memorial Museum offers visitors and the local children who will lead the next generation a chance to once again consider the preciousness of peace. During this period, general visitors can write messages of peace on tanzaku (paper strips) and tie them to bamboo branches set up inside the museum. Tanzaku with messages of peace from local children will also be displayed. Furthermore, souvenirs will be presented to those who write a message during the event period.

[Opening Event Implementation]

On the first day of the event, a decoration ceremony will be held in collaboration with local nursery schools and volunteer organizations.

Location: Seminar Room, Maizuru Repatriation Memorial Museum

Details: Joint decoration of tanzaku on bamboo branches by children from Taira Nursery School and members of the NPO "Maizuru Repatriation Storytellers".

Tanzaku to be decorated: Tanzaku containing messages of peace and individual wishes created in advance by children from Taira Nursery School, Oura Elementary School, Asago Elementary School, and Wakura Junior High School.

On-site interviews and photography are permitted during the event period, including the opening event (decoration by nursery school children) starting at 10:00 on Thursday, July 2 inside the museum.
