What is the "Park × Traveling Bookshelf Project"?
This project aims to repurpose books that would otherwise be discarded from libraries within public park spaces. It seeks to create opportunities for people to encounter books, enhance the time spent in parks, and form gentle connections through reading.
Displayed books can be read freely, and visitors can take home books they like. Furthermore, it is possible to pass books on to the next reader by voluntarily returning them to the shelf after reading.
Future Outlook
While monitoring usage and identifying challenges, we are considering expanding the project to public-private partnership events (such as marches) held in public areas within the city.
Beyond simple distribution of used books, we aim to combine "repurposing books," "improving value of stays in parks," and "citizen participation" to pass on not just the books themselves, but also the thoughts and feelings associated with them to the next person.
