Launching a new project to improve the local childcare environment
Ota City, Gunma Prefecture, will launch a "Childcare Fee Waiver Project for Childcare Workers' Children" starting from the July 2026 fees. This project exempts the full cost of daycare for children aged 0-2 of childcare professionals working at licensed facilities in the city.
This project is a new initiative aimed at supporting the recruitment and retention of childcare personnel while encouraging a balance between work and child-rearing.
Background of the Project
With a nationwide shortage of childcare workers, it is essential for daycare facilities to secure personnel and prevent turnover. Ota City is implementing this project to create an environment where those working as childcare staff can work with peace of mind while having their children cared for.
By creating an environment where childcare workers themselves can continue to work while raising their children, the city aims to stabilize the provision of childcare services and enhance the regional childcare support system.
Project Overview
The city will waive the full childcare fees for children aged 0-2 who attend licensed daycare facilities and whose parents work as childcare staff in facilities within Ota City.
[Eligible Persons] Those who meet the following requirements: ・Parents work as childcare staff, kindergarten teachers, or nursery teachers at childcare facilities within Ota City. ・Both the parent and the target child have residency in Ota City. ・The child is aged 0-2, has received childcare certification from Ota City, and attends a licensed childcare facility. *Non-licensed facilities (including company-led daycare facilities) are not eligible.
[Application Method] Online application *Submission of an employment certificate proven by the childcare facility is required.
Expected Effects
This project is expected to lead to: ・Reduced financial burden on childcare workers ・Support for balancing work and child-rearing ・Support for continued employment of childcare workers ・Securing personnel in daycare facilities within the city ・Improvement of childcare services across the entire region
Ota City will continue to promote policies that support both child-rearing households and childcare facilities, advancing the development of a city where children can be raised with peace of mind.
