The "2026 Raiden Festival ~Tomi Dosukoi SUNSUN~", a major event coloring the summer of Tomi City, Nagano Prefecture, will be held on August 1, 2026 (Saturday) at the Tanaka Shopping Street.

In Tomi City, a town associated with "Raiden", the strongest sumo wrestler in history, known as "unrivaled under heaven", various events will be held for all ages, from children to adults, including dances to the citizen festival song "~Heart Tsunai de~ TOMI, to me!", stage performances, the Raiden Children's Sumo Tournament, and the Raiden Marche.

This year, a participatory event will also be held to pass on the song "~Heart Tsunai de~ TOMI, to me!", which has been loved by citizens for over 20 years since its creation, to the next generation.

This is a summer festival for all citizens to participate in, connecting regional memories and vibrancy to the future.

Tomino's Summer Vibrancy Spreads Through Tanaka Shopping Street

The "2026 Raiden Festival ~Tomi Dosukoi SUNSUN~" is an event held under the spirit of "citizen participation and enjoyment" as Tomi City's summer festival.

The venue, Tanaka Shopping Street, is a 1-minute walk from Shinano Railway Tanaka Station.

A variety of events will unfold from day to night on the stage of the central urban area, easily accessible from within and outside the city.

This year, we are planning stage performances by various organizations, the Raiden Children's Sumo Tournament by local elementary school students, the Raiden Marche where you can enjoy food and drinks, a corner where you can play with water balloons and water guns, and opportunities to interact with athletes.

In the evening, dance groups with 39 teams and over 2,100 participants will appear.

To the tune of the Tomi City Summer Festival song "~Heart Tsunai de~ TOMI, to me!", the shopping street will be enveloped in a circle of dance as one.

Passing the Citizen Festival Song to the Next Generation

This year's Raiden Festival will implement the "~Heart Tsunai de~ TOMI, to me!" Citizen Transmission Project ~Let's Sing the Heart of Our Hometown~.

"~Heart Tsunai de~ TOMI, to me!" is a citizen festival song that was created when Tomi City merged and has been loved by citizens for over 20 years.

This project is a participatory event to pass this song on to the next generation once again.

Forms of expression are free, including singing, dancing, playing music, and performances.

It creates a new expansion of the festival as a "place for expression" where each citizen participates in their own style, enjoys themselves, and shares their performances.

Enjoy Sumo and Regional Vibrancy in the Town Associated with Raiden

Tomi City is the birthplace of Raiden爲右衛門, a sumo wrestler who was active in the Edo period and was called "unrivaled under heaven." The name of the Raiden Festival embodies its powerful history and regional pride.

At the venue, the "Raiden Children's Sumo Tournament" will be held with local elementary school students and active sumo wrestlers participating. This event allows participants to experience sumo culture and local history through the spirited matches of the children.

In addition, a chanko hot pot will be served by sumo wrestlers, and free services such as kids' makeup and face painting will be offered to those who wish.

It will be a day of memorable summer experiences for children.

A Day to Enjoy Stage Performances, Marche, and Sports Experiences

Stage performances will include a Japanese drum performance by the Shinshu Omaki Taiko Preservation Society and a rock performance by Deep People. The beats of Japanese drums and the energy of the music will liven up the atmosphere.

The Raiden Marche will feature popular food trucks and local restaurants.

In addition to dancing and stage performances, you can also enjoy local flavors.

Other attractions include a corner where you can play with water balloons and water guns, a kick target and ring toss challenge with players from the soccer team "Artista Asama", and merchandise sales.

Furthermore, a PR event for the "Shinshu Yamanami National Sports Games" to be held in Shinshu in 2028 will be conducted. In connection with the boxing competition to be held in Tomi City, an experience corner will be set up to familiarize participants with the sport, including punch power measurement and sandbag hitting experiences.

From 6:30 PM, the Festival Enters the Dance Time

Starting at 6:30 PM, the main dance portion of the Raiden Festival will begin.

Over 2,100 dancers from 39 groups will dance simultaneously to the Tomi City Summer Festival song "~Heart Tsunai de~ TOMI, to me!". Many participants, including local organizations, companies, schools, and groups of friends, will gather in Tanaka Shopping Street to create Tomi City's summer together.

This is a participatory event to pass on "~Heart Tsunai de~ TOMI, to me!", a song loved by citizens for over 20 years since its creation at the time of Tomi City's merger, to the next generation.
