Toshima Ward has launched public voting for its 'Citizen-Led Project Proposal System' today, July 15, Reiwa 8 (Wednesday), as part of its efforts to incorporate residents' voices into local governance.

About the 'Citizen-Led Project Proposal System'

Launched in fiscal year Reiwa 5, this initiative invites residents to submit proposals for projects they would like the ward to implement in response to various local challenges. The final projects to be implemented are then decided through a public vote. By enabling residents to identify local issues from their own perspectives and participate in governance through proposal and voting, the ward aims to make local administration more accessible and foster new connections between the community and the ward office.

This Year's Themes and Voting Process

This year, proposals were solicited under two themes: 'Creating a Clean, Environmentally Conscious Community' and 'New Information Initiatives to Enhance the Ward's Recognition and Image.' A total of 57 proposals were received from residents across a wide range of age groups. Following an internal review, six proposals have been selected for public voting.

The voting period will run for two months, from July 15 to September 15, Reiwa 8 (Tuesday). Voting can be done either online via the ward's official website or in person at designated ward facilities using paper ballots.

This year's shortlisted proposals are all compelling ideas that reflect local needs and challenges. This voting process offers a valuable opportunity for residents to choose which projects they would like to see realized. The ward encourages all eligible residents to actively participate in the vote.
