To deepen understanding of intractable diseases among more people, Toyonaka City will conduct a station-front awareness campaign at the plaza in front of Hankyu Toyonaka Station to coincide with 'Intractable Disease Day' on May 23.
Additionally, an awareness video titled "Let's Think About Intractable Diseases Together," featuring citizens who are patients with intractable diseases sharing their real-life experiences, is also available.
Approximately 3,800 patients with intractable diseases live in our city. However, because these conditions can be difficult to recognize from outward appearance and symptoms and daily life difficulties vary from person to person, it can be hard to gain the understanding of others. Through this awareness campaign, we will expand opportunities for citizens to learn about intractable diseases and promote the creation of a town where everyone can live with peace of mind.
**Intractable Disease Day**
To commemorate the enactment of the "Act on Medical Care for Patients with Intractable Diseases" (Intractable Disease Act) on May 23, 2014, the Japan Patient Association (JPA) has registered May 23 of each year as 'Intractable Disease Day'.
