Atleta Launches Heatstroke Prevention Feature to Reduce Risks in School Clubs and Sports Settings

Climb Factory Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo), the developer of Atleta—a platform supporting athlete data management and team communication—announces the launch of its new 'Heatstroke Prevention Feature' designed to help prevent heat-related illnesses in sports environments.

In recent years, with the increasing number of extremely hot days, the importance of heatstroke prevention in school clubs and sports activities has grown significantly. Building on its existing features for condition and nutrition management, Atleta now provides users with real-time heat index data and heatstroke-related information to enable more practical and timely responses.

Development Background

Rising global temperatures have led to increasing concerns about heatstroke risks during athletic activities.

Heatstroke is not caused solely by high temperatures or the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) index; factors such as lack of sleep, accumulated fatigue, poor physical condition, inadequate nutrition, and insufficient hydration also significantly contribute.

Effectively managing all these factors in daily sports operations requires continuous monitoring of each athlete’s condition—a challenging task. While measures like reducing high school baseball games to seven innings or fixing the location of national tournaments have been discussed or implemented, heatstroke remains a complex societal issue with no simple solutions.

With this understanding, Climb Factory has developed this new feature by integrating WBGT data and heatstroke prevention content into Atleta’s existing foundation of daily condition, diet, and training logs, aiming to contribute meaningfully to this critical challenge.

Overview of the Heatstroke Prevention Feature

1. WBGT (Heat Index) Display

Displays the WBGT value for the region where practice or games are held, visualizing heatstroke risk levels. Through Atleta—already a central hub for team information—coaches and athletes can stay aware of daily environmental risks.

2. Risk Level Indication

Shows risk levels based on WBGT: 'Danger,' 'Extreme Caution,' 'Caution,' and 'Attention,' supporting decisions on training intensity and activity feasibility.

3. Heatstroke Prevention Content Delivery

The app delivers educational content on hydration, salt intake, heat acclimatization, the importance of sleep, and nutritional tips to help prevent heatstroke.

Atleta’s Unique Approach to Heatstroke Prevention

Typical heatstroke prevention focuses primarily on environmental metrics like temperature and WBGT.

Atleta enhances this by combining environmental data with individual athlete data—such as physical condition, sleep quality, fatigue levels, dietary intake, and team communication—enabling personalized risk assessment.

For example, athletes experiencing prolonged sleep deprivation, high fatigue, or reduced food intake may face elevated heatstroke risks even under the same environmental conditions.

By allowing coaches and staff to view both real-time environmental data and personal condition logs together, Atleta enables earlier detection of changes in athletes and facilitates timely interventions.

Heatstroke Prevention Information Campaign

Alongside the feature launch, Atleta will begin distributing special educational content on heatstroke prevention.

Targeted at high school and university athletes, coaches, and parents, the platform will continuously share accurate knowledge and practical prevention strategies.

Additionally, Atleta will launch sponsorship programs with supporting companies and organizations to further enhance safety awareness initiatives in sports environments.
