On May 31, 2026 (Sunday), Cross Media Publishing (Headquarters: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Koichiro Kobayakawa), a publisher of business and practical books, hosted a special program titled 'Opening Sensibility: Craft x Mindfulness Program' featuring guest SHOWKO, a ceramic artist and best-selling author of titles such as 'Habits of Sensible People' and 'Craftfulness,' at its ZEROGYM Studio (Sendagaya, Shibuya-ku).
The event was fully booked, with 20 participants learning practical approaches to overcome the limits of logical thinking through sensibility and bringing silence to their busy brains via a talk session and gold-leaf bean plate making workshop.
In the first part, Koichiro Kobayakawa, CEO of Cross Media Group and editor, engaged in a conversation with SHOWKO, who integrates the philosophy of crafts into business and lifestyle. The theme was, 'In a modern society overflowing with information and demanding efficiency and 'correct' answers, why do business professionals need 'sensibility' now?' SHOWKO explained that sensibility is not a natural talent but can be cultivated through daily choices, emphasizing the importance of believing in one's 'inner core.'
In the second part, participants practiced 'Craftfulness' by creating gold-leaf bean plates. Using brushes and gold pigment, they traced their breathing and emotional biorhythms onto plates rather than aiming for a 'correct' outcome. This allowed participants to spend mindful time resting their brains, which are often exhausted by daily multi-tasking.
The unique bean plates created by participants will be fired at a kiln and delivered to their homes at a later date.
